Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY: In collaboration with the Registered Nurse Manager (RN), responsible for the routine functioning of the Endoscopy Center. Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and coordinating patient care from admission to discharge. The Charge Nurse is responsible for assisting with the achievement of patient outcomes with the mission of the facility.
Provides individualized and specialized nursing care to patients within the endoscopy center in accordance with physician's orders, recognized nursing techniques, legal aspects of current nurse practice in the State of Georgia and the Center's policies and procedures. The Charge Nurse is responsible for planning, executing, and evaluating the nursing care given to patients. Will have contact with the patient in each phase of his experience. Must be self-directed and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Daily
  • Narcotic Count
  • Crash cart checks
  • Quality control checks on Glucometer
  • Daily infection control logs ( room, temp and humidity, refrigerator, scope washroom)
  • Incident and Transfer process
  • Call ins in the absence of the Registered Nurse Manager (RN)
  • Paycom in the absence of Registered Nurse Manager (RN)
  • Monitor staff levels and understand when to ask for additional staff in the absence of the Registered Nurse Manager (RN)
  • Procedure board - to include patient flow, timeliness of procedure, staff lunches
  • Scan thin charts
  • Finalize charts
  • Post op calls
  • Monitor to ensure that pre-procedure calls are done
  • Fax Batch
  • Balancing patient payment collection with front desk in the absence of Registered Nurse Manager (RN)
  • Ensure that rooms are stocked and cleaned daily
  • Path reports and letters to patients
  • CMS Date Report

Weekly
  • Check Inventory/order supplies
  • Monitor linen delivery and dirty lined pick up
  • Monitor biohazard - pick up (assigned staff should have box taped and ready for pickup
  • Assure that ultrasonic is drained and cleaned.
  • Assure that A-test is being done.

Monthly
  • Check stock drugs for expiration
  • Check Emergency carts for drug expiration
  • Conduct visual inspection of center and complete infection control/OSHA check list
  • Ensure that autoclave is drained and clean.
  • Fire Extinguisher check
  • Exit sighs check
  • Terminal cleaning of stretchers and wheelchairs
  • Collaborate with Nurse Manager on quarterly task
  • Hand washing surveillance

Quarterly
  • Disaster Drill ( one to include Tornado)
  • Fire Drill (should be interactive)
  • Physician Peer Review
  • Non Physician chart review
  • Mock Code
  • Malignant Hyperthermia Drill

Annual
  • Scope room Vapor monitor

REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
A minimum of 2 years hospital experience. Experience in GI endoscopy and management experience preferred. Current State license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Georgia. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Basic Cardiac Life Support certification. ACLS certification is recommended, but optional. Completion of Airway Management Module is required prior to administering IV conscious sedation. Score of 95% on conscious sedation module and post-test.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
Mental demands include the ability to handle several directives, set priorities, composure and mental stability to adapt to stressful situations. Physical demands include full range of body motion including handling and lifting of patients, pulling, pushing and reaching. Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time, lifting and carrying of items weighting up to 25 pounds.
