Job description

About Torus
Torus is headquartered in Utah and is expanding manufacturing at our 545,000-square-foot facility in Salt Lake City called GigaOne. We are the world's first mesh energy infrastructure, uniting communities through resilient, sustainable, and intelligent power. We design, engineer, manufacture, install, and support our systems end-to-end, standing behind them throughout their lifecycle. Torus systems help reduce costs, lower emissions, and protect facilities from outages, while strengthening the security and reliability of the broader utility grid. Torus is committed to American manufacturing, engineering excellence, and building energy systems that last.
Torus has raised over $267 million from investors like Magnetar, Mercado, ICONIQ and Origin Ventures. The investments are helping to accelerate deployment of modular power plants across utilities, data centers, and industrial sectors. This investor confidence reflects the strength of our team, technology as well as the scale of the problem we are solving.
At Torus, you will be part of something larger than a single product or technology. Your work will help build energy infrastructure that supports and strengthens our electrical grid, critical systems, industry, and communities for decades to come. We value accountability, collaboration, and clear thinking. We are looking for people who want to solve hard problems and build things that matter.
About the Role
As a Supplier Quality and Reliability Engineer on the Supply Chain team, you will be key to ensuring the performance, long-term reliability, and build quality of components feeding our advanced energy products. You will take end-to-end ownership of supplier quality initiatives, from auditing and validating international supplier manufacturing processes to closing out complex systemic quality issues. Acting as a crucial bridge between suppliers, Engineering, Quality, and Operations, your technical expertise will ensure that field performance data and quality lessons learned directly inform our future design and manufacturing standards at Torus.
Who You Are

You excel at methodical problem-solving and possess the technical confidence to investigate complex hardware failures down to the root cause. Grounded in clear thinking and collaboration, you effectively influence external global supply partners and internal technical teams alike to elevate manufacturing standards, drive permanent corrective actions, and protect the customer experience.
Responsibilities
  • Lead supplier quality programs and corrective action initiatives, driving systemic quality issues to closure through structured methodologies.
  • Manage RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) and warranty return programs, performing defect trend analysis and enforcing permanent corrective actions (CAPA) with suppliers.
  • Conduct root cause investigations using formal analytical frameworks including 8D, 5 Why, FMEA, fishbone diagrams, and statistical process control (SPC) tools.
  • Serve as the primary technical quality liaison between international suppliers and internal Quality, Engineering, and Operations teams to translate field and factory learnings into design and process improvements.
  • Perform on-site and remote supplier audits, process validations (PPAP/APQP), and qualification initiatives for new and existing components, particularly with suppliers in Asia.
  • Audit supplier manufacturing lines, line yields, and quality management systems to identify risks and institute risk mitigation strategies.
  • Partner with engineering teams during product development to establish component reliability criteria, inspection plans, and critical-to-quality (CTQ) specifications.
  • Track, report, and present supplier quality metrics (DPPM, SCAR resolution times, RMA trends) to cross-functional leadership.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned..

Required Experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading supplier quality management and resolving complex, systemic quality issues with global vendors.
  • Deep expertise in root cause analysis tools and quality methodologies, including 8D, 5 Why, FMEA, CAPA, and statistical problem-solving techniques.
  • End-to-end ownership of RMA or warranty programs, with a track record of trend identification and execution of permanent corrective actions.
  • Strong technical background working with manufactured hardware products, specifically electronics, electromechanical assemblies, or battery systems.
  • Proven ability to serve as a cross-functional technical liaison between external suppliers and internal Engineering, Quality, and Operations teams.
  • Hands-on experience working with international suppliers, particularly in Asia, including supplier auditing, process validation, and driving quality improvement initiatives.

Preferred Experience
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Reliability Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience in energy storage, clean technology, electric vehicles, or high-reliability hardware manufacturing environments.
  • CQE (Certified Quality Engineer), CQA (Certified Quality Auditor), or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certification.
