Golden Valley, Minnesota (hybrid work option available, must be based locally)
HOURS
Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, 40 hours per week.
PAY, BENEFITS, AND PERKS
Hiring Pay Range: $18.00 - $23.00/hour
  • Safe and Sick time earned at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked

SUMMARY
The Accounting and Risk Intern will assist the team in multiple areas including processing general liability claims and reporting incidents, along with analyzing general ledgers and preparing financial reporting. The Accounting and Risk Internship is full-time (40hrs/week) throughout the 2026 Summer and Fall.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Accounting
  • Reconcile and analyze communities' general ledgers for accuracy
  • Review and analyze communities' month-end reports ensuring compliance with Bigos policies and procedures
  • Prepare financial reporting - monthly, quarterly, and annually for both internal and external statement users
  • Facilitate statement users' understanding and accurate interpretation of financial results
  • Assist with year-end processes including audit, compilation, and tax services provided by public accountants
  • Maintain strong financial controls
  • Comply with Federal, state, and local legal requirements, enforce adherence to requirements and advise management regarding necessary actions
  • Maintain confidence and protect operations by keeping financial information confidential
  • Communicate with colleagues, communities, and business partners in a courteous and professional manner
  • Provide assistance to property management (on-site and regional) to facilitate evaluation and understanding of financial results

Risk
  • Process and manage general liability claims to minimize costs and pursue claim resolution
  • Act as liaison for property and corporate department teams to report and investigate incidents; gather necessary incident documentation to investigate the claim and determine company obligations
  • Report new claims to appropriate insurer and/or third-party claims administrator (TPA)
  • Coordinate with insurer claims adjusters, third party administrator (TPA), Bigos Management business teams, legal counsel, and other parties as needed to diligently manage claims
  • Identify claims with third party recovery or subrogation potential and gather supporting documents
  • Maintain and analyze data regarding claims, prepare reports to assist the company in managing and reducing risk
  • Prepare regular management reporting of claims and other summaries as requested
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
  • Working towards a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is preferred
  • Prior Accounting or Risk related internship experience is preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, advanced Excel skills a plus
  • Must have a strong desire to learn, and the ability to catch on quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to multi-task, as well as work independently and in a team setting.
  • Must have strong analytical skills.
  • Experience in handling sensitive information with the utmost confidentiality

  • Fluent in English and skilled in oral and written communication
  • Ability to use tact, diplomacy and a clear, courteous manner when dealing with co-workers and the public
  • Decision-making, problem solving, and time management skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with limited general supervision and direction

  • Research and analytical skills and attention to detail

Physical Demands:
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; strength to lift and carry items weighing up to 10 pounds; vision to read printed material and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in-person and over the telephone. Must be able to quickly and easily navigate the property/building as required to meet the job functions, including climbing stairs and walking the hallways and common areas.
