Job Overview

This position reports to the Compliance Manager. We seek a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Risk Control Officer for our financial institution. The Risk Control Officer is responsible for conducting sampling audits to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, identify potential risks, and safeguard the financial interests of the credit union. Pay Details:

$21.57-$32.35

Skills and Experience

  •  (1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program.
  • America’s Credit Unions’s Certified Compliance Officer (NCCO) is required within one year of employment. 
  • Requires additional certification: America’s Credit Unions’s Certified Credit Union Internal Auditor (CCUIA), America’s Credit Unions’s Credit Union Business Lending Professional (CUBLP), or equivalent internal auditing certification required within three years of employment.
  • Minimum of eight years of experience working in a similar role within the banking or financial services industry. Experience working in a financial institution or a similar role with exposure to compliance or internal auditing.
  • Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
  • Proven experience in internal auditing within the financial services industry, preferably in a credit union or banking environment.
  • Strong knowledge of auditing practices, accounting principles, and regulatory compliance.
  • Familiarity with lending procedures, business accounts, and financial statement analysis.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team

Role Description and Essential Duties

  • Responsible for performing comprehensive audits of various areas within the credit union, including business accounts, lending audits (business, consumer, and employee), and branch audits.
  • Lead and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and industry best practices to minimize legal and regulatory risks.
  • Manage the collaboration with various departments and business units to facilitate risk identification, assessment, and mitigation efforts across the organization.
  • Oversee and present risk reports to senior management and relevant stakeholders, highlighting key risks, trends, and recommended actions for risk mitigation.
  • Responsible for staying updated on industry trends, emerging risks, and regulatory changes to proactively adapt risk control strategies and ensure compliance with evolving standards.
  • Manage the accuracy and completeness of consumer statements, ensuring that transactions are appropriately recorded and reported.
  • Manage comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities in various areas of the financial institution, including operations, finance, compliance, and technology.
  • Review dividend rate changes, ensuring compliance with disclosure requirements and confirming accurate implementation.
  • Validate end-of-month rates and disclosures to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Perform medallion signature guarantee stamp audits, ensuring proper usage and documentation.
  • Complies with all Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) rules and regulations, in addition to Customer Identification Program (CIP). Attends required annual BSA training and required compliance training.
