About the role
As the Business Affairs Associate I, you will review, negotiate, and draft business terms, and manage agreements with domestic and international licensees for our Consumer Products team, which focuses on extending the growing slate of anime brands that Crunchyroll represents into physical/digital products and experiences. You will strategically negotiate and review agreements by balancing appropriate financial terms, legal risks, and business risks. You will work in partnership with our Consumer Products Group, as well as Legal, Finance, and other global stakeholders, to license merchandising rights for our content to domestic and international licensees.
  • You will draft and negotiate merchandise licensing agreements with domestic/international licensees.
  • You will work closely with the Consumer Products Team and Legal Team to ensure that all negotiated terms and requirements are reflected in the agreement, and that all licensee activities and brand representation align with what has been granted and approved by the IP holders in Japan.
  • You will escalate any unusual or high-risk provisions to internal departments, including the Consumer Products Group, the Content Team, Legal, Finance, and international affiliate companies.
  • You will maintain an organized system for tracking deal terms and update negotiation statuses within our internal tracking systems.
  • You will provide general business affairs support in a rapidly changing business environment.
  • You will document, innovate, and adapt standard operating procedures on a continual basis.

In the role of Business Affairs Associate I, you will report to the VP, Business Affairs.

About You

  • 3+ years of experience with licensing and business affairs experience in an international setup, preferably in the animation, entertainment, consumer products, content licensing, or video game industry.
  • Experience drafting deal terms and interpreting licensing agreements.
  • Experience negotiating rights and analyzing risk regarding business affairs contracts and licenses.
  • Experience managing licensing content and IPs.
  • Experience with project management and related project management tools
  • Passion for Anime, Japanese culture, and the Entertainment industry, with an understanding of Japanese business culture.
About the Team
As part of Crunchyroll's Content organization, the Business Affairs team supports the Content Acquisition team on acquisition deals, providing consultation on deal strategies, negotiations, and rights clearance with other departments and managing associated financial, legal, and business risks.
