What are rigging supervisors?
What are some of the main challenges a Rigging Supervisor faces when managing a team on a large production?
What Are the Duties of a Rigging Supervisor?
A rigging supervisor works to coordinate, supervise, and operate machinery such as a crane. Your duties in this career include working to inspect machinery and erect rigging equipment and cables. Your responsibilities focus on supervising the riggers and other specialists. You ensure the crew follows correct safety procedures while they lift, hoist, or install equipment or materials. You may also be responsible for the budget and the schedule for each project. At various points throughout the day or project, you must report activities and progress to project supervisors.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Rigging Supervisor, and why are they important?
What is the difference between Rigging Supervisor vs Rigging Foreman?
| Aspect | Rigging Supervisor | Rigging Foreman |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Certifications in rigging, safety, and leadership | Certifications in rigging and safety, some leadership training |
| Work Environment | Oversees multiple teams, manages safety and procedures | Leads rigging crews directly on-site |
| Industry Usage | Common in construction, film, and industrial projects | Frequent in construction, entertainment, and event setups |
The Rigging Supervisor typically holds broader responsibilities, overseeing multiple crews and ensuring safety compliance, while the Rigging Foreman directly manages rigging crews on-site. Both roles require rigging certifications and safety training, but the supervisor's role is more managerial and strategic, whereas the foreman focuses on daily operations and crew leadership.

Precision Custom Components (PCC) is seeking a talented 2ndshift Material Handling Supervisor to join our team. This is an on-site position reporting to our manufacturing facility in York, PA.
The Material Handling Supervisor oversees all 2nd shift (3:30pm-11:55pm) material handling and rigging operations, ensuring the safe, timely, and accurate movement of raw materials, in-process product, tooling, and finished goods throughout the facility. This role leads and develops a team of hourly union material handlers/riggers, planning and assigning daily work while monitoring staffing needs to meet production schedules and customer commitments.
At PCC, you’ll be part of a skilled team that delivers high-quality, made-to-spec components where precision, reliability, and customer focus matter. Whether you’re driving results in the office or making them happen on the shop floor, you’ll collaborate across departments to solve problems, support efficient operations, and help ensure every component is completed safely, accurately, and with precision!
Essential Duties of the Material Handling Supervisor:
- Supervise and coordinate 2nd shift material handling and rigging operations to ensure the safe, timely, and accurate movement of raw materials, in-process product, tooling, and finished goods throughout the facility.
- Lead, train, and develop hourly union material handlers/riggers to meet production, quality, safety, and delivery requirements.
- Plan and assign daily work, monitor staffing needs, and adjust priorities to support production schedules and customer commitments.
- Ensure all material handling activities are performed in compliance with safety standards, company policies, work instructions, and contractual/customer requirements.
- Coordinate with production, quality, shipping, receiving, and other departments to maintain efficient material flow and minimize downtime or delays.
- Monitor and verify inventory transactions, material movements, and job status updates within the ERP system to maintain inventory accuracy and traceability.
- Support loading, unloading, staging, storage, and shipment preparation of products and tooling in accordance with company and customer specifications.
- Oversee the proper use and basic readiness of material handling equipment and tools; report maintenance, repair, or safety concerns promptly.
- Train employees on procedures, equipment use, safe rigging practices, and standard work expectations; reinforce accountability and continuous improvement.
- Investigate and resolve workflow, personnel, and operational issues in a timely manner, escalating concerns when appropriate.
- Promote a positive labor-management environment and maintain effective working relationships in a union-represented setting.
- Drive continuous improvement in safety, productivity, quality, housekeeping, and overall material handling performance.
Education/Qualifications:
- High school diploma or trade school diploma required; completion of an apprenticeship program or related post-secondary technical education preferred.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a setting similar to PCC.
- Demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience leading associates in a material handling, rigging, or manufacturing support environment.
- Strong working knowledge of ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to read blueprints and interpret GD&T to support accurate material movement, tooling coordination, and production requirements.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and communicate clearly with employees at all levels.
- Proven ability to work independently, take initiative, and build productive supervisor-employee relationships in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Ability to effectively supervise and lead associates in a union-represented environment while maintaining accountability, consistency, and respect.
