What are RIA attorneys?

RIA attorneys are legal professionals who specialize in working with Registered Investment Advisers (RIAs). They help RIAs navigate complex regulatory requirements, draft and review compliance documents, and ensure adherence to both federal and state securities laws. RIA attorneys provide guidance on registration, ongoing compliance, and handling regulatory examinations, making them essential for investment advisory firms to operate legally and efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a RIA Attorney, and why are they important?

To thrive as a RIA (Registered Investment Adviser) Attorney, you need deep knowledge of securities law, regulatory compliance, and experience with investment adviser regulations, typically supported by a JD and bar admission. Familiarity with SEC and state regulatory filing systems, Form ADV preparation, and compliance management software is essential. Exceptional attention to detail, analytical thinking, and strong communication skills help you interpret regulations and advise clients effectively. These skills ensure RIA Attorneys can protect clients from regulatory risks, support business operations, and maintain ethical standards in a highly regulated industry.

What are some common challenges Ria Attorneys face when handling international money transfer compliance cases?

Ria Attorneys often encounter challenges related to rapidly changing international regulations and ensuring strict compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) laws. They must stay updated on both local and global legal requirements, which can vary significantly between jurisdictions. Additionally, collaborating with cross-functional teams such as compliance, operations, and risk management is essential to identify and mitigate potential legal risks. Effective communication and adaptability are key to navigating these complexities while supporting the company's global operations.

We have a great team of friendly, talented and inspiring people at First United. As a learning organization, we take pride in offering exciting opportunities for employees to grow and follow their passions. That's one of the many reasons First United has been voted as one of the top places to work in Oklahoma since 2009! The PositionJob TitleDirector of Trust Strategy & Client IntegrationJob Description

First United Bank has the fiduciary infrastructure, the institutional backing, and the integrated wealth platform to become a premier provider of trust and fiduciary services in the Texas and Oklahoma market. What we need now is the person who helps grow it.

This is a market-facing, relationship-driven, business development leadership position for a trust professional who is genuinely energized by building - not maintaining. The right candidate will become one of the most visible and influential trust professionals in this region.

This role carries significant influence over the strategic direction of the Trust platform - and the latitude to help shape what it becomes.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

Build the Referral Network

  • Develop and sustain referral relationships with estate planning attorneys, tax attorneys, CPAs, family offices, and centers of influence across Dallas/Plano and the broader TX/OK footprint
  • Build RIA and institutional partnerships - positioning First United as a trusted fiduciary partner, not a competitor
  • Represent Trust Services at estate planning councils, bar association events, and professional associations

Integrate Trust Into the Delos Wealth Experience

  • Partner with Delos Private Client Group advisors and financial planners to identify and convert trust opportunities within the existing client base
  • Train and educate advisors on trust capabilities and opportunity identification
  • Serve as the Trust resource in high-value client and prospect meetings

Own the Growth Strategy

  • Develop and execute the Trust platform's growth strategy across internal and external channels
  • Track and manage a new business pipeline with consistent follow-through
  • Identify opportunities in institutional trustee services, directed trusts, and special needs trust administration

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Dresses professionally.
  • Recommends to supervisor possible methods to improve department.
  • Completes all required compliance exams on a yearly basis.
  • Adherence to all First United Policies and Procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

EMPLOYEE SPECIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 10+ years in trust, estate planning, or wealth management
  • Demonstrated success in trust business development or relationship management
  • Established network of estate planning attorneys and/or CPAs in the Texas and Oklahoma markets
  • Deep working knowledge of trust structures, estate planning concepts, and fiduciary principles
  • A track record of generating new trust business and referral relationships

Strongly Preferred:

  • J.D. with estate planning focus
  • CTFA, CFP, or equivalent
  • Series 65 (or willingness to obtain)
  • Prior bank trust department or trust company experience

This Role Is Right For You If...

  • You are energized by prospecting and business development
  • You are comfortable calling on attorneys and CPAs and asking for business
  • You think of yourself as a builder, not a maintainer
  • You want your income to reflect what you produce
  • You want a platform and the freedom to go develop it

This role is not the right fit if your strength is trust administration, you prefer managing existing relationships to building new ones, or you've never carried a pipeline or been measured on new business.

Why First United Bank:

  • A financially strong, independent community bank with deep Texas and Oklahoma roots
  • A Trust platform with fiduciary infrastructure, regulatory standing, and operational capability ready to scale
  • An integrated Wealth & Asset Management division - Delos Private Client Group, SLW Investments, and Financial Planning - serving HNW clients across the region
  • Executive leadership committed to Trust growth with the resources to compete
  • A Dallas/Plano market that is genuinely underserved by relationship-driven corporate trustees relative to the wealth that exists here
  • The opportunity to be one of the key architects in building something meaningful from the ground up - not simply joining it after it has already been built

NOTE: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employee may perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

All Locations:Dallas-Uptown, Plano-Parkwood
