Paramedic
The Paramedic is responsible for providing medical care, rescue operations, public education and prevention, and vehicle/equipment/station maintenance.
Schedule
This local IAFF Union position will work seven 24 hour shifts per month averaging forty-two hours per week on an eight week rotational schedule.
Salary
$28.28 - $31.17 Hourly
Examples Of Duties
- Under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor/Lt. Paramedic, the Paramedic will adhere to and comply with all department policy and procedures as well as current state patient care guidelines;
- Responds as a member of a medical team to bring basic or advanced emergency medical care to the visitors and citizens of South Kingstown;
- Responds to fires and law enforcement incidents as a medical team to provide EMS services to victims and/or stand-by at events that may require EMS;
- Responds to request for mutual aid as needed from other agencies;
- Operates a motor vehicle, medical equipment, and tools;
- Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of department vehicles, equipment, and buildings;
- Prepares reports and maintains records per department policy and State standards;
- Participates in scheduled training and lectures;
- Performs duties as a licensed Paramedic according to standards set forth by the department;
- Conducts demonstrations, tours, CPR training, and other public relations activities/education;
- Maintain the privacy of all patients in accordance with department policy, and federal law;
- Other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High School or GED Diploma
- Paramedic course completion certificate
- State of Rhode Island Paramedic license
- Must read/write/speak English, be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide
- Must be able to create written and computerized reports
- Must maintain RI State Paramedic license, RI driver's license, and National Registry certification
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Capabilities
- Must be knowledgeable in RI State EMS rules and regulations, RI State and Nationally accepted EMS standards of care and pre-hospital protocols, 12 lead EKG interpretation, central IV line placement, surgical airway, closed chest tube insertion, peripheral IV insertion, cardiac electrical therapy, medication administration, patient immobilization, patient transport, intra-osseous line insertion, American Heart Association CPR, ACLS, PALS
- Must be able to utilize critical thinking skills to make independent decisions in high stress situations and be able to work a 24-hour and/or 12-hour rotating shift schedule
Required Licenses
- Current National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Paramedic certification, valid State of Rhode Island paramedic license with the State of Rhode Island, one year EMS experience, valid RI driver's license. In addition, training in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support as provided by the American Heart Association.
