Experienced Automotive Parts Counterperson / Parts Advisor

Gordon Chevrolet | Garden City, Michigan
Full-Time | $18.00–$20.00 Per Hour Plus Commission | Monday–Friday

Gordon Chevrolet is hiring an experienced Automotive Parts Counterperson / Parts Advisor to join our Parts Department in Garden City, Michigan.

We are seeking a dependable automotive parts professional with strong parts-lookup skills, excellent customer service abilities, and experience supporting technicians, service advisors, retail customers, wholesale accounts, body shop operations, and online parts customers.

This position pays $18.00–$20.00 per hour based on experience, plus commission. Gordon Chevrolet also offers comprehensive benefits and a 401(k) with a 4% company match.

Position Schedule

This position has the following regular work schedule:

  • Monday: 9:00 AM–8:00 PM
  • Tuesday–Friday: 7:00 AM–6:00 PM
  • No regularly scheduled weekends

Position Summary

The Automotive Parts Counterperson / Parts Advisor assists technicians, service advisors, retail customers, wholesale accounts, body shop personnel, and online customers with automotive parts sales, parts lookup, ordering, invoicing, and order fulfillment.

The ideal candidate has strong automotive parts knowledge, can accurately identify the correct parts using VINs and electronic parts catalogs, and can work efficiently in a fast-paced Chevrolet dealership Parts Department.

Gordon Chevrolet currently uses Tekion DMS. Tekion experience is helpful but not required. General Motors, Chevrolet, RevolutionParts, or other electronic parts catalog experience is preferred.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Assist technicians, service advisors, retail customers, wholesale accounts, body shop personnel, and online customers with automotive parts requests.
  • Accurately identify and look up parts using VINs, electronic parts catalogs, diagrams, and vehicle information.
  • Sell OEM automotive parts at the counter, over the telephone, and through online sales channels.
  • Provide accurate pricing, availability, fitment information, and order-status updates.
  • Process repair-order, retail, wholesale, body shop, and eCommerce parts transactions.
  • Use Tekion DMS and electronic parts catalogs for parts lookup, invoicing, billing, and order tracking.
  • Ensure parts are properly billed to repair orders, counter tickets, and customer invoices.
  • Inform customers and technicians about related parts, companion parts, available options, and current specials.
  • Locate unavailable parts through outside vendors and submit emergency orders when necessary.
  • Track and follow up on special-order, back-ordered, and will-call parts.
  • Notify customers, service advisors, technicians, and body shop personnel when ordered parts arrive.
  • Pull, stage, tag, and prepare parts for repair orders, customer pickup, shipment, or delivery.
  • Assist with automotive eCommerce orders by verifying part numbers, VIN fitment, availability, and shipping information.
  • Communicate with online customers regarding availability, backorders, shipping, returns, and fitment questions.
  • Review body shop estimates to confirm parts accuracy and pricing.
  • Process eligible parts returns and credits using the required documentation.
  • Assist with stocking, inventory accuracy, and lost-sales tracking.
  • Maintain organized records and a clean, professional parts-counter area.
  • Work cooperatively with Parts Department team members to provide prompt and accurate service.
Required Qualifications
  • Previous automotive parts-counter experience
  • Strong automotive parts knowledge and parts-lookup ability
  • Ability to identify and verify parts using VINs and electronic parts catalogs
  • Experience assisting technicians, service advisors, or automotive customers
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Accuracy when working with repair orders, invoices, estimates, and special orders
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced dealership environment
  • Dependable attendance and the ability to work the complete posted schedule
  • Professional, organized, detail-oriented, and team-focused
