Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Design Integration Manager is responsible for successful delivery of McCarthy projects by organizing the design participants, process and technology. Participants include the design team(s), stakeholders, internal McCarthy partners and trade partners when projects utilize design build, CMAR, design assist or other alternate delivery methods. This position requires proactive management of the design process with all parties ensuring coordinated documents that support the project goals for safety, quality, cost, scope, schedule, and execution.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions
  • Lead overall design process and design deliverables for assigned projects.
  • Build and maintain a high-performing, collaborative design team culture.
  • Identify and manage design-phase risks and opportunities.
  • Leverage experience to solve project-specific challenges and inform design schedules, milestones, and deliverables.

Design Team & Deliverable Management
  • Interface with project teams to define and monitor expectations for schedule, cost, quality, and design document content.
  • Identify decision-makers and critical decision points; obtain client direction, provide internal direction, and maintain a decision log including contractual scope changes.
  • Develop and manage integrated design-phase schedules and document packaging strategies to support phased permitting, construction, funding, and GMPs.
  • Establish and lead a weekly workflow (design meetings, cluster meetings, stakeholder meetings) to support design progress and timely decision-making.
  • Set up and manage design-phase collaboration platforms (e.g., Bluebeam Studio, Revizto) and cloud-based 2D/3D document control and file sharing.
  • Organize and facilitate design workshops, page-turn reviews, collaboration sessions, and the overall design review process with design team, stakeholders, and internal partners.
  • Partner with VDC Manager to develop and implement project-specific BIM Execution Plans.
  • Coordinate with owner stakeholders and vendors (including equipment vendors) to ensure Owner Project Requirements (OPR) are accurately reflected in design documents.
  • Oversee implementation of McCarthy quality programs and procedures within design documents, ensuring critical quality elements are incorporated.
  • Develop working knowledge of applicable building codes and regulations to help ensure code-compliant design delivery.

Assembling Teams & Contracting
  • Support selection of A/E partners for design-build teams.
  • Assist in preparation of RFPs and scopes of work for A/E firms, consultants, Design-Assist, and Design-Build trade partners.
  • Coordinate design services between firms to eliminate gaps in scope and services.
  • Coordinate Design-Build and Design-Assist contract terms and conditions with internal and external partners.
  • Prepare design-phase proposals to the owner.
  • Manage ASRs as needed.

Business Development & Preconstruction Support
  • Coordinate proposal submissions with Business Unit Leaders and Division Marketing, including identification of visualization opportunities during pursuits.
  • For design-build pursuits, work with preconstruction and A/E partners to establish appropriate level of design for pursuit pricing and align design solutions with the agreed win strategy.
  • Facilitate communication of cost management needs among designers, Design-Assist and Design-Build partners, and estimating teams during all phases.
  • Become familiar with OPR, Basis of Design (BOD), scopes, and budgets to ensure a coordinated approach to estimating and design/scope monitoring.
  • Apply Target Value Design strategies to meet the OPR, identify major design changes, and track them via a Trend Log.
  • Monitor design development between estimate updates and recommend corrective actions to maintain or reduce the overall budget.
  • Assist in planning and executing Value Analysis and overall cost management strategies with the owner and design team.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5+ years of experience managing and coordinating design disciplines
  • 3+ years of experience working on large or hyperscale data center projects
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or Interior Design required.
  • Proven experience working in the design phase of a project required.
  • Strong facilitator capabilities required.
  • Ability to direct the design team to positive outcomes for the project required.
  • Professional Engineer, Registered Architect, or Interior Designer preferred.
  • Hands-on field experience in design and construction is preferred.
  • Proficiency in software programs preferred: PowerPoint, MS Teams, SharePoint, Mural, OneNote, Excel, Word, and Bluebeam.
  • Experience in software programs preferred: Revit, Navisworks, Revizto, and Smartsheet.
