Restaurant Tech professionals specialize in implementing and maintaining restaurant technology systems, while Restaurant Managers oversee daily restaurant operations and staff. Both roles are essential in the hospitality industry but focus on different skill sets and responsibilities.

What are some common challenges restaurant techs face when supporting both front-of-house and back-of-house systems?

Restaurant Techs often navigate the challenge of balancing urgent front-of-house issues, like POS system outages, with back-of-house needs such as kitchen display or inventory software maintenance. These environments can be fast-paced and require quick troubleshooting to minimize downtime and ensure smooth operations. Effective communication and prioritization are essential, as techs must coordinate with managers, servers, and kitchen staff while often juggling multiple tickets at once. Staying adaptable and proactive in learning about new technologies used in restaurants can help techs stay ahead of common problems.

What is a restaurant tech?

A Restaurant Tech, or restaurant technology specialist, is a professional responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting the technological systems used in restaurants. This includes point-of-sale (POS) systems, kitchen display systems, online ordering platforms, payment processing equipment, and sometimes networking and security devices. They ensure these technologies run smoothly to support efficient restaurant operations and enhance the customer experience. Restaurant Techs may also train staff on new systems and stay updated on emerging restaurant technologies.
