Restaurant Owner information

Is being a restaurant owner a career?

Being a restaurant owner is considered a career as it involves managing a business, overseeing operations, and making long-term strategic decisions. It requires skills in management, finance, and customer service, and often involves working irregular hours. Many restaurant owners build their careers through experience, certifications, and industry knowledge.

What is a restaurant owner?

Restaurant owners are individuals or entities who own and operate restaurants, overseeing all aspects of the business. Their responsibilities include managing finances, hiring and supervising staff, ensuring food quality and safety, and creating marketing strategies. Restaurant owners may be involved in daily operations or take a more hands-off approach, depending on the size and type of restaurant. Their goal is to provide a great dining experience while maintaining profitability and legal compliance.

What are some common challenges new restaurant owners face during their first year of operation?

New restaurant owners often encounter challenges such as managing cash flow, building a loyal customer base, and handling staffing issues. Balancing operational costs with unpredictable revenue can be difficult, especially during the initial months. Additionally, owners must navigate local regulations, supplier relationships, and marketing to establish their restaurant's reputation. Effective delegation and adaptability are essential to overcome these hurdles and set the foundation for long-term success.

What is the difference between Restaurant Owner vs Restaurant Manager?

The main difference is that a Restaurant Owner owns and controls the business, focusing on high-level decisions and ownership responsibilities. A Restaurant Manager, on the other hand, handles daily operations, staff, and customer service, often working under the owner’s direction.

What can you do as a restaurant owner?

A restaurant owner is responsible for managing all aspects of the restaurant, including overseeing staff, controlling budgets, ensuring food quality and safety, and maintaining customer satisfaction. They handle operations, marketing, and compliance with health regulations, often requiring skills in leadership, business management, and familiarity with point-of-sale systems. Successful owners also develop menus, manage suppliers, and plan strategies for growth and profitability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a restaurant owner, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Restaurant Owner, you need strong business management, financial acumen, and a solid understanding of food service operations, often supported by experience in hospitality or business administration. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory management software, and food safety certifications is typically required. Exceptional leadership, problem-solving, and customer service skills help set successful owners apart in this competitive industry. These abilities ensure efficient operations, high-quality guest experiences, and long-term business profitability.

Job description

About Owner
Owner is the AI-native system local business owners use to succeed, starting with restaurants.
We're building the system that replaces the many tools owners use to run their business.
It powers everything from the restaurant's website, online ordering, CRM, POS, and more.
Product philosophy
Most small business software makes owners do the work to get what they want: sales growth and profit growth. Owner does the work for them agentically.
Our system drives demand, converts it, and helps operators run their business day to day. As it improves, the business improves with it.
Using Owner should feel like having a team of great operators, engineers, and marketers working for you.
Our vision
We're starting by helping independent restaurants succeed online.
But it's not just restaurants that need our help. Most local businesses are struggling with these same problems. Huge technology corporations are taking their customers, bleeding their profits, and making it hard for them to survive.
Once we nail the solution for restaurants - we'll scale it into every other local business type.
In the future we envision, tens of millions of local business owners will use our technology to succeed in the digital age.

Our traction
Since 2020, we've generated tens of millions in revenue and processed over a billion dollars of online orders. 1 in 5 Americans have used an Owner.com website.
More importantly, we've helped over 20,000 restaurant owners, and saved them nearly $200 million in fees.
Our team
Our team is now in the low hundreds. We've got top talent from the most successful companies in SMB software, including: Shopify, HubSpot, DoorDash, ServiceTitan, Rappi, Faire and Stripe.
We'll be scaling even faster in 2026 to keep pace with our customer growth.
Where we work
Owner is a remote-first, global company headquartered in San Francisco, with a sales hub in Toronto. For a few of our roles we prioritize in-person collaboration at one of our office locations. Most of our teammates are distributed throughout the globe. Please review the role description and discuss with your recruiter for more details on location!
Why we're looking for you
Owner is building the agentic system for the next era of small business software - and we need a GTM Product Manager to own the systems that power how we grow.
This isn't a traditional PM role. You'll be the product owner for the infrastructure that finds restaurant owners, understands their intent, delivers the right message at the right moment, moves them into trials, and converts that demand into ARR. Think acquisition funnels, lifecycle signals, billing flows, and AI-powered engagement - all working together as one system.
You'll work across product, data, RevOps, lifecycle marketing, and GTM execution to build and ship the revenue engine. If you've spent your career at the intersection of CRM, modern tooling (Clay, Apollo, Salesforce), and AI - and you're frustrated maintaining someone else's stack when you'd rather architect your own - this is that role.
This role is 100% remote and can be based anywhere in the United States or Canada.
The impact you'll have
  • Increase total ARR contribution by building the infrastructure that helps Owner identify, route, nurture, convert, and retain high-quality demand
  • Build and improve billing systems, CPQ flows, Salesforce syncs, RevOps integrations, data stacks, lifecycle marketing engines, and internal communication workflows
  • Evolve Salesforce infrastructure toward a headless architecture that gives engineering and GTM teams more flexibility to build on top of it
  • Build the platform that enables Growth, Sales, and Launch teams to apply AI across their funnels - making every stage faster, smarter, and more efficient
  • Create a unified lead funnel spanning Growth, landing pages, Unified Sales Register, lifecycle messaging, and Sales and Launch workflows
  • Partner with Engineering, Analytics, RevOps, Sales, Marketing, Partnerships, Finance, and Launch to make the growth engine faster, clearer, and more reliable
  • Build the instrumentation, dashboards, and operating cadence that give the team real-time visibility into what's working, where leads are stalling, and which bets are driving trials and ARR

Who you'll work with
  • You'll partner closely with Engineering, Analytics, RevOps, and Design to build the technical and data systems behind Owner's growth engine.
  • You'll collaborate with Sales, Marketing, Partnerships, Finance, and Launch to connect lead generation, qualification, follow-up, billing, purchase, and onboarding into one coherent system.
  • You'll work with leadership across Product and GTM to align the roadmap around the highest-leverage opportunities to increase trials started and ARR contribution.

What we're looking for
  • 5+ years of combined product management and software engineering experience
  • Ability to get things done: you have a track record of shipping software that made a difference for your customers
  • Excellent product sense: you have a good understanding of what makes for a high-quality product and are opinionated about what solutions will be successful
  • Deep customer empathy: you care about helping your customers and are skilled at performing research to uncover their true needs
  • Strong data fluency: you effectively gather and integrate quantitative and qualitative data to inform your decision-making and update your intuition
  • Proficiency handling ambiguity: you make sure your goals are clearly defined and display significant independence in achieving them
  • Clear written and verbal communication: you're a force for clarity and alignment, ensuring everyone's on the same page
  • Competence with technical complexity: you can understand the high-level architecture of a product and its implications for the customer experience, and you're comfortable talking with engineers about project scope and tradeoffs

Compensation and benefits
  • The estimated starting base salary range for this role is $200-240K, plus a generous pre-IPO equity package
  • Other benefits include comprehensive health coverage, remote-first workplace, unlimited PTO - plus extra fun perks!
