REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Currently attending an accredited respiratory care program. Must provide a copy of the Verification of Student Status form required to obtain their Provisional license. Their instructor must complete Form 5

LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • PROVISIONAL RCP (Respiratory Care Practitioner) - The incumbent may work under a temporary letter to practice issued by OSBMLS until the board meets to issue their Provisional Respiratory Care Practitioner License
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) Issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association within 30 days of hire

Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbal/written).

The Respiratory Care Associate responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Responsible for patient care on general floor care areas, excluding all critical care patients, except under direct observations, e.g. assisting a therapist.
  • Under strict supervision institutes a limited variety of diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory care services to various patient types (geriatrics/adult/pediatric/neonatal), i.e. IPPB, aerosol therapy, chest physiotherapy, oxygen therapy, pulse oximetry, sputum collection, specialty gas delivery, arterial blood gas/capillary sampling and analysis, CPR and airway management techniques, manual resuscitation, non-invasive ventilator support, transport support, and pharmaceutical agent delivery.
  • Transports equipment and supplies to patient care areas as needed The Respiratory Care Associate is accountable to the Supervisor and Chief Therapist of the Respiratory Care Department. This position may have additional or varied physical demand and/or respiratory fit test requirements. Please consult the Physical Demands Project SharePoint site or contact Risk Management/Employee Health for additional information. Moderate exposure to hazardous risks, including potential for exposure to infections and communicable diseases, blood and body fluids, electrical equipment, chemicals. Potential for bodily injury related to lifting and incidents of workplace violence. Must follow universal safety precautions.
  • Exposed to constant interruptions, noise, disagreeable odors, and assorted chemicals.
  • May have multiple floors assigned per shift. 
  • May be required to be on call status.
