Job Summary
A Residence Life Assistant, or RLA, is a full-time undergraduate student who has lived on campus for a minimum of two academic semesters. The RLA will assist a Graduate Level Residence Counselor (RC) in managing a group of high school students from The Craft Academy for Excellence in Science and Mathematics. An RLA is responsible for helping build community in the residence hall and assisting Craft Academy Staff with nightly supervision, as well as programming and activities needs. The RLA will serve as a member of the residence hall staff, working with a team that includes multiple Residence Counselors (RCs), a lead residence counselor (LRC), and a residence life coordinator (RLC), to build an environment in line with the needs of a high achieving STEM academy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Builds positive relationships with students by interacting with them in their own space within the Craft Academy residence hall.
Plans and facilitates activities in the residence hall for the area in which the employee is designated. Will also be required to supervise and chaperone activities directed by other staff that requires residence life assistance.
Develops a tight-knit community through decorations including bulletin boards as well as seasonal items and engagement within the residence halls.
Develops a community in which individuals of different walks and experiences find camaraderie and inclusion.
Educates Craft students on both institutional and university policies and procedures and responds to actions in violation of policies in a manner that reinforces standards and the expectation of behavior for Craft students.
Serves as a representative of the Craft Academy for Excellence in Science and Mathematics and the Craft family positively and professionally in line with the vision, values, mission, and core principles of the Academy and Joe Craft.
Serves as a backup on call that can assist in emergencies and fulfill the duties of a partnered Graduate Assistant Residence Counselor during emergencies on a rotating weekly basis.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Serves as a role model to particularly malleable high school students who are looking for a leader to confide in. The standard of character at the Craft Academy is exceptional on a level equal to or above that of Morehead State University.
Attends and participates in all required meetings, training, and residence hall events including opening and closing.
Participates in committees and student organizations as needed.
Minimum Requirements
Must be enrolled as a full-time student at Morehead State University.
Must have and maintain a cumulative and semester GPA of 2.5.
Must be in good academic, financial, and disciplinary standing with Morehead State University.
Have resided in a Morehead State general population residence hall or apartment for at least two academic semesters.
Must feel comfortable using nominal judgment and possess moderate/advanced analytical or decision-making skills.
Additional Desirable Qualifications Physical Requirements Working Conditions
In exchange for their service to the Craft Academy, Resident Life Assistants receive:
A housing scholarship equal to the amount of housing ($2850).
An hourly rate of $9.50.
A meal plan consisting of 50 block meals and $150 Flex dollars.
