At Community Residences, Inc. (CRi), we believe every person deserves the opportunity to live a meaningful life with dignity, choice, and independence. For over 50 years, CRi has empowered individuals with developmental disabilities, serious mental illness, substance use disorders, and those experiencing homelessness through compassionate, person-centered services.
We're looking for a strategic and relationship-driven Director of Development & Communications to lead our fundraising, marketing, volunteer engagement, and community outreach efforts while helping expand CRi's impact across Virginia and Maryland.
What You'll Do
As the Director of Development & Communications, you'll develop and execute strategies that strengthen CRi's financial sustainability and public presence by:
  • Leading annual giving, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, foundation partnerships, and grant initiatives.
  • Cultivating meaningful relationships with donors, community leaders, board members, and corporate partners.
  • Overseeing grant writing, donor stewardship, fundraising campaigns, and impact reporting.
  • Driving CRi's marketing and communications strategy across digital, print, media, and social platforms.
  • Managing volunteer recruitment, engagement, and recognition programs.
  • Representing CRi at community events, networking opportunities, and fundraising functions.
  • Supervising and developing a high-performing Development & Communications team.
  • Collaborating closely with executive leadership to support CRi's long-term strategic growth.

Requirements
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, Business, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of progressive experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or philanthropy.
  • Demonstrated success securing major gifts, grants, corporate partnerships, and donor engagement.
  • Experience leading fundraising campaigns and managing donor relationships.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities.
  • Experience leading and developing high-performing teams.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience working with nonprofit boards and volunteer leadership.
  • Knowledge of donor database and fundraising CRM platforms.
