A reproductive toxicology job involves studying how chemicals, drugs, and environmental exposures affect fertility, pregnancy, and fetal development. Professionals in this field conduct laboratory research, analyze data, and assess potential risks to human and animal reproduction. Their work helps regulatory agencies and industries ensure the safety of pharmaceuticals, consumer products, and industrial chemicals. They may work in academic research, government agencies, or private industry.
Daily tasks in reproductive toxicology often include designing and conducting experiments to evaluate the effects of chemicals or pharmaceuticals on reproductive systems, analyzing laboratory data, and preparing detailed scientific reports. You may also participate in regulatory submissions, collaborate closely with cross-functional teams such as regulatory affairs, pathology, and analytical chemistry, and stay updated on federal and international safety regulations. The role requires careful documentation and adherence to laboratory safety protocols. Depending on your organization, you might also mentor junior staff or contribute to peer-reviewed publications. This combination of technical and collaborative work makes for a dynamic and impactful career.
To thrive in Reproductive Toxicology, you need a solid background in biology, toxicology, pharmacology, or a related field, typically supported by an advanced degree such as a PhD or master's. Experience with laboratory techniques, regulatory guidelines (e.g., GLP, OECD), and data analysis software like GraphPad Prism or statistical tools is highly valuable. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and clear communication skills help professionals collaborate effectively and interpret complex results. These abilities are crucial for conducting accurate research, ensuring compliance, and providing reliable risk assessments impacting public health and safety.

This site was initially focused as a CDC quarantine facility but has grown to a center of excellence for discovery phase biopharmaceutical studies focusing on NHPs for non-GLP general therapy, early discovery studies, and model development. The site offers a flexible and dynamic work environment where staff can engage in various aspects of research, working closely with sponsors both virtually on onsite. The work environment is friendly and on the smaller side with 35 employees, so you will get to know everyone by name and have access and visibility to senior management. But don't let the size fool you, this is one of 4 large animal research facilities across the country giving you access to a wider variety of scientific expertise and ability to collaborate with colleagues. The veterinarians are highly involved in studies, assisting study directors with data interpretation and procedures like surgeries and biopsies.
