Job description

Overview
This position is responsible for supporting and maintaining the organization's Kubernetes infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native application environments. The Junior DevOps Engineer services as the primary backup and understudy to the DevOps Engineer, actively participating in knowledge transfer, cross-training, and operational support activities to ensure continuity of service and reduce key-person dependencies within the DevOps function. The Junior DevOps Engineer will develop technical expertise in Kubernetes, automation, infrastructure as code, and DevOps best practices while contributing to the reliability, scalability, and security of the company's technology platforms.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with the administration, maintenance, and monitoring of Kubernetes clusters and containerized applications, tracking system health, application performance, and infrastructure availability through approved monitoring and alerting tools.
  • Support deployment activities for internally developed applications, including software releases, upgrades, patches, and routine platform maintenance.
  • Participate in maintaining CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and infrastructure-as-code solutions, and create scripts to automate routine operational and administrative tasks.
  • Assist with troubleshooting application, container, and infrastructure issues, and participate in incident response and root cause analysis under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Help maintain documentation, operational procedures, runbooks, and system diagrams.
  • Collaborate with software developers, system administrators, database administrators, and network engineers to support application delivery.
  • Assist with the implementation of security controls, vulnerability remediation, and compliance requirements within DevOps environments.
  • Participate in after-hours maintenance activities and on-call rotations as assigned.
  • Continuously develop skills across the team's DevOps stack and practices, and identify opportunities for operational improvement, automation, and efficiency gains.
  • Actively supports and complies with all components of the compliance program, including, but not limited to, completion of training and reporting of suspected violations of law and Company policy.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information; abides with HIPAA and PHI guidelines at all times.
  • Reacts positively to change and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Technical foundation on either side of the DevOps discipline - systems administration (Linux and/or Windows, including networking fundamentals) or software development experience.
  • Foundational understanding of containers, microservices, and Kubernetes concepts (coursework, labs, certs like CKA/KCNA, or hands-on hobby/work exposure all count).
  • Comfortable scripting in at least one language (Python, Bash, PowerShell or similar).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and willingness to learn the team's tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab).
  • Awareness of monitoring/logging concepts.
  • Strong problem-solving instincts and eagerness to learn.
  • Good communication and collaboration in a cross-functional team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Must be detail oriented and self-motivated.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Anticipate needs in a proactive manner to increase satisfaction.
