Job description

The Senior Reports Developer will support the Texas Education Agency (TEA) on the IT-SEDS (Information Technology – Statewide Education Data System) project. This role performs advanced analysis to support, improve, and enhance Jasper Reports and the underlying database for a large, statewide project. The worker devises approaches to solving complex reporting and data problems, provides thought leadership, manages project scope, and delivers ongoing status updates. This position exhibits a high level of skill in data aggregation and analysis and works across multiple agency stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and efficacy of reports serving Texas's 1,200 school districts. Work assignments follow a defined software development life cycle (SDLC) process using an Agile-like approach for completing code changes for scheduled releases.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops and enhances Jasper Reports to support statewide education data reporting needs.
  • Designs, codes, and supports database objects using Oracle SQL and PL/SQL.
  • Performs advanced analysis to support, improve, and enhance reports and the underlying database.
  • Devises approaches to solving complex reporting and data problems.
  • Provides thought leadership on reporting and data analysis initiatives.
  • Manages project scope and provides ongoing updates on project status.
  • Performs data aggregation and analysis to support reporting accuracy.
  • Conducts development and unit testing of code changes.
  • Documents processes, code changes, and reporting solutions.
  • Participates in Agile development activities and follows the defined SDLC process for completing code changes for scheduled releases, collaborating across multiple agency stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and efficacy of created reports.
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 8 years of experience in Jasper Reports development.
  • 8 years of experience in unit testing.
  • 8 years of experience working in an Agile environment.
  • 5 years of experience designing, coding, and supporting Oracle SQL and PL/SQL.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years of knowledge of JIRA/Bitbucket.

Additional Requirements:

  • Texas-based candidates are preferred.

Work Location and Schedule:

  • Location: Remote
  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 AM, excluding State holidays when the agency is closed.
  • Work Arrangement: Telework
