What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote workflow automation specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Workflow Automation Specialist, you need strong analytical skills, process optimization experience, and a background in IT or business process management. Familiarity with automation tools like Zapier, Microsoft Power Automate, or UiPath, as well as relevant certifications, is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and self-management skills distinguish top performers in remote environments. These competencies enable efficient process streamlining, effective team collaboration, and successful automation project delivery from any location.

What are some common challenges faced when managing workflow automation remotely, and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge in remote workflow automation roles is ensuring seamless communication and coordination across distributed teams, especially when automating processes that involve multiple departments. It's important to establish clear documentation, standardized procedures, and regular check-ins to keep everyone aligned. Additionally, remote professionals must be proactive in monitoring automated workflows for errors or inefficiencies, often requiring robust reporting tools and strong troubleshooting skills. Leveraging collaborative platforms and fostering a culture of transparency can help overcome these challenges and ensure smooth automation projects.

Our client is a technology driven freight forwarder that leverages modern systems and data to improve visibility, automation, and decision making across global logistics operations.
They have built a proprietary logistics technology ecosystem that sits at the center of its operations and customer experience. More than just a traditional TMS, the platform provides real time supply chain visibility, workflow automation, operational intelligence, supplier collaboration, and end to end shipment management across global logistics operations.

The company has approximately 30 employees and a tight knit, high trust culture built on the belief that taking care of employees leads to better outcomes for customers.
Company values:
  • Ownership and accountability
  • Collaboration and transparency
  • Respect and openness
  • Builders who take initiative

Benefits:
  • Performance-based bonus (5%)

  • Flexible, employee-first perks including generous PTO, mental health days, remote work flexibility, and team-driven culture initiatives
  • Opportunity to shape a company-wide technology strategy

Job Description
This role offers the opportunity to help shape the future evolution of that ecosystem and play a major role in how a technology driven freight forwarder scales, operates, and differentiates itself in the market.
Our client is hiring a Director of Technology to lead the evolution of its technology ecosystem and support the company's next phase of growth. You will be responsible for shaping the systems, architecture, and integrations that support logistics workflows across operations, finance, and client experience.
The company is currently undergoing a digital transformation, including transitioning from a legacy TMS to a modern system and further developing its Salesforce-centered environment. You will own and improve end-to-end operational workflows, not just systems, across logistics execution, tracking, and customer delivery. Your focus will be on building scalable systems that drive measurable business outcomes.
Responsibilities
  • Own and lead the company's technology roadmap and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Manage and mentor a small technology team.
  • Improve logistics workflows, operational systems, and business processes.
  • Lead integrations across TMS, CRM, operational, and customer-facing systems.
  • Act as the bridge between technology, operations, commercial teams, and leadership.
  • Drive automation, AI, and data-driven operational improvements.
  • Support architecture, workflow, and system design decisions across the business.

Qualifications
  • 7-12+ years of experience in technology leadership within logistics, freight forwarding, or supply chain environments.
  • Strong track record of owning technology roadmaps, leading complex transformation initiatives, making critical platform and systems decisions, and driving meaningful business change.
  • Strong leadership presence and ability to operate as part of a senior leadership team.
  • Experience leading teams and owning technology strategy in lean, fast moving companies.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non technical stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of workflows, integrations, and systems architecture within logistics or freight forwarding environments.
  • Hands on experience improving or building logistics systems and operational processes.
  • Experience with TMS, CRM, Salesforce, customer facing platforms, or similar operational systems. Candidates with lighter Salesforce exposure but deep freight forwarding architecture experience will be considered.
  • Comfortable balancing strategic thinking with practical execution
