WE ARE: A dynamic and growing fintech organization at PROG Holdings, Inc. We partner across Finance, Tax, Legal, and Technology to drive impactful business outcomes while maintaining strong compliance and governance standards.

YOU ARE: The Tax Manager is responsible for supporting all aspects of PROG Holdings' U.S. federal and multi-state income tax function, including select international tax matters. Reporting to the Director of Tax, this role plays a key part in executing tax compliance, provision, planning, and audit activities across a publicly traded, multi-entity organization.

You are a technically strong tax professional who can balance compliance and provision responsibilities while managing audits, notices, and strategic tax initiatives. You are comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment and take ownership of delivering accurate, timely, and high-quality results.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY:

  • Manage and review federal and multi-state income tax returns, ensuring timely and accurate filing

  • Coordinate multi-state tax compliance, including apportionment and state-specific requirements

  • Support quarterly and annual ASC 740 tax provision calculations, including effective tax rate analysis and related adjustments

  • Assist with preparation of tax-related financial disclosures for SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q)

  • Partner with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure accurate and timely deliverables

  • Support international tax compliance and documentation for cross-border and intercompany transactions

  • Contribute to tax planning strategies aimed at optimizing cash taxes and effective tax rate

  • Partner with FP&A to support tax rate forecasting and long-range planning

  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, scalability, and accuracy

  • Leverage tax technology platforms (e.g., Workday, OneSource) to streamline workflows

  • Support finance transformation initiatives, including automation and AI-enabled improvements

  • Manage and respond to tax audits, notices, and examinations across federal and state jurisdictions

  • Maintain organized, audit-ready documentation and support tax position analysis

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, IT, and external stakeholders to support evolving business needs

YOU'LL BRING:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred

  • 5-8+ years of progressive tax experience, including public accounting or public company experience

  • Strong knowledge of ASC 740 income tax accounting and financial reporting requirements

  • Experience supporting multi-entity, consolidated tax environments

  • Proven ability to manage tax audits, notices, and uncertain tax positions

  • Familiarity with SOX controls within the tax function

  • Experience with tax technology tools such as Workday and OneSource

  • Exposure to financial services, fintech, or related industries (preferred)

  • Experience with automation, AI tools, or finance transformation initiatives (preferred)
