Job description

Koniag Professional Services, LLC, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Data Visualization Specialist to support KPS and our government customer. The position is remote. This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a Public Trust. This position is for a Future New Business Opportunity.

Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to:

The Data Visualization Specialist will translate complex data into actionable insights through the development of reports, dashboards, analytical visualizations, and presentations that directly support federal grant management decision-making.

  • Design and develop interactive dashboards, reports, and data visualizations using Tableau, Power BI, D3.js, and other tools to create static and interactive displays that effectively communicate complex information to diverse audiences
  • Translate complex data analysis into clear, accessible visual stories that highlight trends, patterns, and actionable insights for management meetings, conferences, leadership briefings, and congressional reporting
  • Collaborate with federal staff, Data Analysts, Data Engineers, and program leadership to understand visualization needs, conduct user research, gather feedback, and iteratively improve data products through stakeholder engagement
  • Design and maintain operational dashboards for grant management, including performance metrics, enrollment tracking, monitoring reviews, compliance tracking, budget visualizations, and application processing status displays
  • Ensure all visualizations meet federal accessibility standards (Section 508 compliance) by applying universal design principles, implementing appropriate color schemes, testing with assistive technologies, and following federal branding guidelines
  • Develop interactive visualizations using D3.js, Tableau, and Power BI; integrate data from multiple federal systems; build automated reporting solutions with scheduled refreshes; and leverage GIS and mapping tools to create geographic visualizations.
  • Create templates, standardized visualization frameworks, style guides, and visualization libraries for consistency while producing ad-hoc visualizations for special projects, training materials, webinars, and external communications
  • Assist with leadership data requests and trend analyses, often ad hoc and on short notice, and participate in briefings as needed
  • Develop data-informed documentation including reports, improvement suggestions, metrics, dashboards, and guidance to enhance operations and information systems

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in data Visualization, Information Design, Data Science, Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field from an accredited college or university

Required Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant post-baccalaureate professional experience in data visualization
Required Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong design skills and visualization principles
  • Experience with Tableau, Power BI, D3.js
  • Proven experience translating complex data — including geospatial visualizations and maps — into interactive dashboards and visual stories that support service area analysis, grant distribution, and diverse audiences ranging from technical to non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience translating complex data into visual stories using Statista data displays, interactive visualization, geospatial mapping, and data storytelling
  • Stakeholder collaboration skills; Presentation development experience; Accessibility standards knowledge. Design Principles: Strong design skills with demonstrated application of Gestalt principles, responsive design, color theory, and visual hierarchy
  • Geospatial Visualization: Proven ability to develop geospatial visualizations and maps to support service area analysis and grant distribution
  • Collaboration: Excellent stakeholder collaboration skills with the ability to gather requirements, present findings, and incorporate feedback
  • Communication: Exceptional communication skills to translate complex data into visual stories for management meetings, congressional briefings, and diverse audiences
  • Team Environment: Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Desired Skills and Competencies:

  • GIS/Mapping Tools: Experience with ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar geospatial analysis platforms
  • Programming Languages: Knowledge of R visualization packages and Python visualization libraries
  • Dashboard Development: Experience creating accessible, intuitive dashboards and delivering them to end-users with clear documentation
  • Additional Visualization Tools: Figma, Canva, Google Data Studio
  • Dashboard design, infographic creation
  • Techniques: Statis data displays, interactive visualization, geospatial mapping, data story telling

Travel Requirements:

  • Contractor personnel are required to travel within and outside the Region during the performance of this contract to conduct site visits, attend meetings, conferences, and training

  • U.S. citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance
  • Ability to pass required background investigations for access to federal facilities and systems
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
  • Willingness to complete mandatory training requirements
