This method allows for safety, efficiency, and access to hard-to-reach areas, often requiring technical skills and knowledge of inspection standards.

What are typical challenges faced in a Remote Visual Inspection role, and how can I prepare for them?

A common challenge in Remote Visual Inspection roles is interpreting image or video data accurately without being physically present, which requires strong visual assessment skills and familiarity with digital inspection tools. You may also need to adapt to rapidly changing technologies and work across multiple projects simultaneously. To prepare, it’s valuable to gain hands-on experience with remote inspection equipment, stay updated on industry standards, and develop clear communication skills to report findings effectively. Many employers provide ongoing training and support to help you stay current and excel in the role.

What is a Remote Visual Inspection job?

A Remote Visual Inspection (RVI) job involves using specialized cameras, drones, borescopes, or robotic systems to visually inspect hard-to-reach or hazardous areas. Inspectors assess structural integrity, identify defects, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards. This role is commonly found in industries like aerospace, energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure. RVI helps minimize human risk, reduce downtime, and improve maintenance efficiency. Skilled professionals interpret findings and generate detailed reports for analysis and decision-making.

What type of inspectors make the most money?

In the field of remote visual inspection, inspectors with specialized skills, certifications, and experience tend to earn higher salaries. Senior inspectors or those working in high-demand industries such as aerospace, oil and gas, or manufacturing often make the most money, especially if they hold advanced certifications like ASNT or API. Expertise with advanced inspection tools and a strong safety record also contribute to higher earnings.

What skills are needed for visual inspection?

Visual inspection jobs require strong attention to detail, good eyesight, and the ability to identify defects or inconsistencies. Skills in using inspection tools such as magnifying glasses, borescopes, or cameras are important, along with knowledge of safety procedures and sometimes relevant certifications. Good communication skills help report findings accurately in a team environment.
