What is a remote visual inspection?

A remote visual inspection is a process where inspectors examine equipment, structures, or components from a distance using tools such as cameras, drones, or specialized imaging devices. This method allows for safety, efficiency, and access to hard-to-reach areas, often requiring technical skills and knowledge of inspection standards.

What are typical challenges faced in a Remote Visual Inspection role, and how can I prepare for them?

A common challenge in Remote Visual Inspection roles is interpreting image or video data accurately without being physically present, which requires strong visual assessment skills and familiarity with digital inspection tools. You may also need to adapt to rapidly changing technologies and work across multiple projects simultaneously. To prepare, it’s valuable to gain hands-on experience with remote inspection equipment, stay updated on industry standards, and develop clear communication skills to report findings effectively. Many employers provide ongoing training and support to help you stay current and excel in the role.

What is a Remote Visual Inspection job?

A Remote Visual Inspection (RVI) job involves using specialized cameras, drones, borescopes, or robotic systems to visually inspect hard-to-reach or hazardous areas. Inspectors assess structural integrity, identify defects, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards. This role is commonly found in industries like aerospace, energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure. RVI helps minimize human risk, reduce downtime, and improve maintenance efficiency. Skilled professionals interpret findings and generate detailed reports for analysis and decision-making.

What type of inspectors make the most money?

In the field of remote visual inspection, inspectors with specialized skills, certifications, and experience tend to earn higher salaries. Senior inspectors or those working in high-demand industries such as aerospace, oil and gas, or manufacturing often make the most money, especially if they hold advanced certifications like ASNT or API. Expertise with advanced inspection tools and a strong safety record also contribute to higher earnings.

What skills are needed for visual inspection?

Visual inspection jobs require strong attention to detail, good eyesight, and the ability to identify defects or inconsistencies. Skills in using inspection tools such as magnifying glasses, borescopes, or cameras are important, along with knowledge of safety procedures and sometimes relevant certifications. Good communication skills help report findings accurately in a team environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote Visual Inspection position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Remote Visual Inspection, you need keen attention to detail, strong analytical abilities, and familiarity with industry-specific standards or inspection protocols—often supported by a technical diploma or relevant experience. Proficiency with remote inspection technology such as high-resolution cameras, drones, and software platforms for documenting and reporting findings is essential, and certifications like ASNT VT Level I/II can be advantageous. Effective communication, problem-solving, and a proactive approach enable inspectors to collaborate efficiently with remote teams and clients. These skills ensure accurate and timely identification of issues, uphold safety and quality standards, and facilitate smooth project coordination.

What jobs pay $6,000 a month?

Remote visual inspection roles can pay around $6,000 per month, especially for experienced inspectors with certifications and proficiency in tools like drones or specialized software. Field Sourcing & Infrastructure Design Specialist

Alternative Title: Mobility Infrastructure & Feasibility Specialist, Site Acquisition & CAD Layout Specialist or Logistics Real Estate & Design Specialist

Salary Range: $90,000 to $100,000 Annually, Commensurate with Experience

Work Modality: Remote with 50% Travel

Schedule: Full-time

Location: Colorado, Georgia or centralized direct flight access to major metropolitan areas

Role Overview

We are seeking a high-energy, detail-oriented Field Sourcing & Infrastructure Design Specialist to spearhead Phase 1 site acquisition and layout design. This is a hybrid tactical and technical role that requires a unique blend of "boots-on-the-ground" commercial real estate scouting and precise AutoCAD drafting.

You will serve as our rapid-response asset hunter—traveling heavily to reactively source supplemental parking lots for unexpected overflow or business continuity needs—while simultaneously conducting rigorous 45-day feasibility studies. When you aren't hitting the pavement to lock down sites, you will be behind the screen drafting high-fidelity CAD layouts to optimize stall allocations, traffic flow, and safety compliance.

Location: Remote / Field-Based (Heavy Travel Required)

Phase: Phase 1 Launch

Key ResponsibilitiesSupplemental Sourcing & Field Feasibility
  • Reactive Scouting: Serve as the rapid-response lead for unplanned, ad-hoc parking demands (e.g., unexpected overflow, business continuity defleeting). Actively hunt, negotiate, and source supplemental short-term or temporary parking assets.
  • Feasibility Execution: Conduct standard 45-day property evaluation cycles for all planned and unplanned sites. Physically measure overhead clearances, turn radiuses, and ingress/egress ramps to ensure operational viability.
  • Assessments & Management: Perform comprehensive parking, traffic studies and neighborhood impact assessments. Oversee the day-to-day management of temporary stop-gap locations to ensure they remain secure and viable for the duration of use.
Infrastructure Design & AutoCAD Drafting
  • Site Layout Drafting: Draft highly precise, visual AutoCAD site layouts for both permanent hubs and supplemental ad-hoc lots.
  • Space Optimization: Design optimal stall layouts that strategically balance vehicle staging allocations against worker capacity.
  • Compliance Integration: Embed strict signage, striping, and safety compliance details directly into blueprints and site designs.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partnerships & Real Estate: Interlock with Business Development and Partnerships to unlock retail lot opportunities (e.g., big-box retailers like Walmart or Ikea). Coordinate closely with Real Estate Managers.
  • Safety & Launch: Partner with local field security, Facilities Management, Construction Leads, and Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) teams to ensure seamless site activation.
Candidate Profile & Qualifications

We are not looking for simple "clipboard inspectors." The ideal candidate is a self-starter who possesses the technical acumen of a drafter but thrives in a fast-paced, high-travel environment where they have to hit the pavement to get things done.

Required Skills & Experience
  • The "Hustle" Factor: Proven experience as a real estate scout, field acquisition specialist, or logistics procurement agent. Ability to source commercial spaces creatively and aggressively under tight deadlines.
  • Technical Drafting: Strong proficiency in AutoCAD (or equivalent civil/architectural design software) with a portfolio of commercial site layouts or traffic engineering designs.
  • Field Engineering Basics: Comfortable conducting physical site measurements, turn-radius evaluations, and reading grading/clearance plans.
  • Mobility: Willingness to travel heavily and adapt to rapidly shifting operational demands.
Preferred Backgrounds
  • Architectural Drafters or Civil Engineering Technicians specializing in commercial layouts.
  • Logistics real estate scouts with strong technical design capabilities.
