Job description

Building the people that build the world.

With platforms in HVAC and Detection and Measurement, SPX Technologies builds innovative solutions that enable a safer, more efficient, sustainable world.  Through our RiSE talent development framework, we Reach, Identify, Strengthen, and Engage our employees to support them in their continued development.  We're a global company of problem solvers, collaborators, and innovators, and our businesses build solutions that impact the world.

As part of Detection and Measurement, TCI is a global leader in innovative spectrum monitoring and communications intelligence (COMINT) systems.  With solutions to ensure the efficient use of frequencies, long distance communications, monitoring and security communications intelligence applications, we improve communications and protect military forces and infrastructure around the world.

About the Role

At TCI, a division of SPX Communication Technologies, we're looking for a hands-on Systems Engineer to lead the integration and execution of advanced radio receiving systems used for monitoring, direction finding, and signal analysis.
This is more than a technical role-it's a chance to shape mission-critical systems used by defense, intelligence, and regulatory agencies worldwide. You'll work at the intersection of RF engineering, software integration, and real-world impact, helping governments and organizations master the spectrum.

What You'll Do
  • Design & Integrate: Architect and configure end-to-end systems, including infrastructure, data networks, towers, and mobile platforms.
  • Document & Deliver: Create detailed engineering documentation-wiring diagrams, test procedures, BOMs, and manuals-ensuring traceability and change control.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, and Marketing to define specs and deliverables.
  • Support Production: Improve manufacturability and support ongoing projects through lifecycle phases.
  • Drive Innovation: Evaluate new components, suppliers, and technologies to enhance system performance and reliability.
  • Customize Solutions: Tailor product modifications to meet unique customer requirements.
  • Champion Process Excellence: Identify opportunities for continuous improvement using Lean and 5S principles.
Why This Role is Exciting
  • Mission-Driven Innovation: We design and manufacture highly engineered Tactical Communication Intelligence systems, Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS), and Counter Remote Controlled Improvised Explosive Devices (C-RCIED) Inhibitors.
  • Global Security Impact: Our RF detection, measurement, and location capabilities support governments in frequency regulation and tactical data links for secure video and data distribution.
  • Unified Expertise: The combined strength of the TCI and ECS product lines enables us to address evolving threats within the RF spectrum with unmatched precision and agility.
  • Real-World Applications: From battlefield awareness to national spectrum management, our technologies are deployed where they matter most.
What You Bring
  • Required:
  • BSEE (MSEE preferred) with a focus on RF communication systems.
  • 5+ years of experience in system design, integration, and testing of radio systems (LF to SHF bands).
  • Strong background in system architecture, trade studies, and performance analysis.
  • Experience with PLM/ERP systems (Agile, Oracle), BOMs, and ETO processes.
  • Excellent communication and project coordination skills.
  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency required.
  • Preferred:
  • Knowledge of analog/RF design up to 60 GHz.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and MS Visio.
  • Familiarity with computer networking and Lean/5S methodologies.

As a result, we aim for flexibility in structuring competitive compensation offers to ensure we are able to attract the best candidates. As required by law in this state, the quoted salary range for this position is $125,000 - $160,000 and represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect.   We tailor our offers within the range based on organizational needs, internal equity, market data, geographic zone, and the selected candidate's experience, education, industry knowledge, location, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the selection process.  At SPX, it is not common for individuals to be hired at the higher end of the range, and compensation decisions depend on a variety of factors.  This position is eligible to participate in a discretionary bonus, subject to the rules governing the plan.  SPX offers a variety of benefits, including health benefits, 401K retirement with a company match, and flexible time off.   More information about our benefits can be found on the "Rewards and Benefits" section of our career page.
