Job description

Job Title: Remote Pulmonary Rehab Therapist *(Pulmonary Rehab Experience Required)

Classification: 1099 Contractor

Work Structure: Fully Remote

Schedule/Shift: Part-Time; Mon-Fri; 15-20 hours per week; schedules available between 8am and 10pm ET 

Team:  Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Reporting to: Head of Care Operations

Location: United States

Compensation:  Pay per session: $20 for 30 min; $30 for 60 min 

Position Overview:

The Remote Pulmonary Rehab Therapist plays a pivotal role in supporting patients enrolled in our pulmonary rehabilitation program. The role focuses on providing pulmonary rehabilitation and therapeutic programming, as well as helping patients navigate through the program through goal setting, progression tracking, and providing education and guidance on healthy lifestyles. The Remote Pulmonary Rehab Therapist will also support patients in managing their recovery and daily life. The Remote Pulmonary Rehab Therapist will work closely with a multidisciplinary team including nurses, exercise physiologists, and dietitians to provide comprehensive care for patients in various stages of recovery.

Responsibilities:

  1. Patient Assessment and Monitoring:
    • Performs comprehensive health assessments of pulmonary rehab patients, including physical fitness, medical history, lifestyle habits, and psychological wellbeing.
    • Monitors patients' progress and adjust rehabilitation plans as needed, tracking metrics such as exercise tolerance, heart rate, and blood pressure.
  2. Personalized & Collaborative Care:
    • Performs patient assessment & assessment for therapy.
    • Verifies orders and administers aerosolized medication, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, & oxygen.
    • Performs pulse oximetry tests during pulmonary rehab sessions as well as 6MWT (six-minute walk test).
    • Delivers oxygen therapy as appropriate in pulmonary rehab setting.
    • Teaches and promotes respiratory muscle training, diaphragm and pursed-lip breathing.
    • Performs cardiac EKG monitoring.
    • Develops individual treatment plan including exercise prescription.
    • Works closely with a multidisciplinary team, including pulmonologists, nurses, exercise physiologists, physical therapists, and dietitians, to ensure comprehensive care for each patient.
    • Provides regular updates on patient progress and challenges to the healthcare team.
  3. Behavioral Coaching:
    • Offers motivation and emotional support to patients, addressing any concerns or barriers to following their rehabilitation plan.
    • Utilizes cognitive-behavioral strategies to help patients overcome challenges, such as anxiety, depression, or lack of motivation.
    • Identifies and addresses barriers that would hinder program completion.
  4. Education and Counseling:

Provides education on health, nutrition, and stress management, promoting healthy behaviors.

    • Provides counseling on lifestyle modifications, including smoking cessation, dietary changes, stress reduction, and medication adherence.
    • Promotes the importance of regular attendance in the program
    • Identifies barriers to group education participation. 
  1. Data Collection and Documentation:
    • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, progress, and communication.
    • Records relevant data for tracking and reporting on program outcomes, patient goals, and adherence to the rehab plan.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Education:
    Bachelor's or Master's degree in respiratory care or a related field.
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Required)
    • CPFT or RPFT (Required)
    • CRT or RRT (Required)
    • ACSM-EP (Preferred)
  • Experience:
    • 3+ years of experience working in a clinical or rehabilitation setting with pulmonary patients.
  • Skills:
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex medical information in an understandable way.
    • Knowledge of pulmonary disease management, cardiopulmonary rehab prescription, and behavior change techniques.
    • Empathy and patience for patients with varying physical and emotional challenges.
  • Other Qualities:
    • Motivational and goal-oriented approach to patient care.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
