Position Overview
The Accessibility Subject Matter Expert (SME) will support the Massachusetts Judiciary’s digital accessibility program by ensuring public-facing digital content, applications, documents, and multimedia resources meet accessibility and compliance standards. This role requires extensive expertise in WCAG, Section 508, and ADA requirements, along with hands-on accessibility testing, remediation, training, and stakeholder engagement experience. The ideal candidate is passionate about improving digital access for all users and can effectively collaborate with technical and non-technical teams.
Key Responsibilities
Accessibility Consulting & Compliance
  • Serve as the accessibility subject matter expert for digital content, applications, documents, forms, and multimedia.
  • Provide guidance on accessible design, usability, and digital accessibility best practices.
  • Ensure accessibility initiatives align with WCAG 2.1 AA/AAA, Section 508, ADA Title II, and organizational standards.
  • Participate in requirements analysis to ensure accessibility is incorporated into solution design and implementation.
Accessibility Audits & Testing
  • Conduct accessibility audits of websites, PDFs, forms, Word documents, Excel files, PowerPoint presentations, and enterprise applications.
  • Evaluate digital assets using manual testing methodologies and automated accessibility tools.
  • Perform testing with assistive technologies including: 
    • JAWS
    • NVDA
    • VoiceOver
    • TalkBack
    • Adobe Acrobat
    • PAC
  • Utilize accessibility testing tools such as: 
    • axe
    • WAVE
    • WorldSpace
  • Develop detailed audit findings and compliance reports with actionable remediation recommendations.
Remediation Support
  • Identify accessibility barriers and compliance gaps across digital content and services.
  • Assist content creators and technical teams with remediation strategies and corrective actions.
  • Create accessible templates and standards to streamline content creation processes.
  • Support remediation efforts involving documents, websites, forms, multimedia, and enterprise systems.
Training & Knowledge Transfer
  • Develop accessibility training materials, guides, and supporting documentation.
  • Deliver training sessions on accessibility standards, testing methods, and content creation best practices.
  • Conduct office hours and consultation sessions for content developers and stakeholders.
  • Promote accessibility awareness throughout the organization.
Program Support & Operations
  • Assist in developing accessibility procedures, standards, and operational processes.
  • Provide support for public accessibility inquiries and requests.
  • Collaborate with leadership and stakeholders to advance accessibility initiatives.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts for digital accessibility compliance and user experience.
Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in digital accessibility, accessibility testing, or related fields.
  • Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC).
  • Expert knowledge of:

  • Hands-on experience remediating:
