Job Title: AWS Architect US Citizen Only
Location: Remote

Primary Purpose of Position

Optum Serve is seeking a skilled and experienced AWS Architect to design, build, and maintain secure, scalable, and high-performing cloud infrastructure across both commercial and government AWS environments. This role is critical in ensuring our cloud architecture supports development and operations teams, enables continuous improvement, and adheres to industry-leading standards and compliance.

Essential Responsibilities

Architect, build and maintain IaaS and PaaS infrastructure within AWS (commercial and GovCloud).

Select appropriate AWS services to meet requirements related to compute, data, networking, and security.

Apply AWS architectural best practices and participate in high-level design decisions.

Partner with development teams to define and track SLOs, SLAs, and SLIs.

Contribute to the design and implementation of scalable platform services including provisioning, configuration, and deployment.

Integrate systems with centralized logging, metrics, incident monitoring, and dashboard tools.

Develop tools and frameworks to enable observability and application monitoring (e.g., Dashboards, APMs).

Implement automation and self-healing for production systems to ensure stability and performance.

Create and maintain operational tooling to optimize infrastructure performance and developer productivity.

Design frameworks to test the performance and resiliency of cloud services.

Automate performance, cost, risk, and compliance-related monitoring and alerting.

Champion process improvement and automation of support workflows.

Required Qualifications

3+ years in a cloud architect role designing and deploying scalable, highly available AWS solutions.

8+ years in a cloud engineering or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) role.

Deep expertise in AWS services such as VPC, EC2, S3, ECS, CloudFormation, Lambda, EKS, RDS, ELB, Route53, RedShift, Chime, and Connect.

Production experience managing Kubernetes clusters (EKS or AKS).

Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform.

Experience with Kubernetes deployment tools such as Helm, ArgoCD, or Flux.

Solid understanding of networking protocols and identity & access management (IAM).

Hands-on experience supporting production workloads in cloud environments.

Knowledge of encryption practices (KMS), PKI, and security standards including OWASP.

Familiarity with compliance standards such as FedRAMP and NIST (800-171, 800-53).

Experience integrating and using monitoring tools such as CloudWatch, VPC Flow Logs, Splunk, Dynatrace, Grafana, or Prometheus.

Proficient in version control systems like Azure DevOps, GitHub, or GitLab.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.

Master?s Degree with coursework in advanced algorithms, data structures, or computational mathematics.

Demonstrated experience deploying production-grade applications in AWS.

A passion for automation and infrastructure-as-code principles.

Strong organizational and prioritization skills in a fast-paced, agile environment.
