Description

Member First Mortgage is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Mortgage Consultant to join our team! This fully remote position is ideal for a professional mortgage originator who thrives in a sales-driven environment, values strong relationships with credit unions and members, and is passionate about helping borrowers achieve homeownership.

Mortgage Consultants are responsible for originating mortgage loans, managing their loan pipeline, and supporting credit unions with all mortgage origination needs. In this role, you will interview members, discuss loan options, guide borrowers through the mortgage process, and ensure a high level of service, professionalism, and compliance. This is an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated, detail-oriented professional with a proven sales record to grow within a collaborative and mission-driven organization.

Compensation

โ€ข Base salary: $30,000โ€“$35,000 annually
โ€ข Commission: 25 BPSโ€“30 BPS depending on experience and production tier

Responsibilities

โ€ข Assume responsibility for effective and professional completion of assigned loan origination functions, including interviewing members, taking applications, and processing preliminary loan documentation
โ€ข Discuss loan alternatives, credit criteria, interest rates, and loan documentation in a clear, professional manner
โ€ข Perform follow-up activities to achieve conditional loan approval within established timeframes
โ€ข Advise members of loan approval or denial and counsel members whose loan requests were denied, explaining reasons and alternatives
โ€ข Establish and maintain effective business relationships with members and credit unions
โ€ข Answer questions, respond to requests, and resolve issues promptly and professionally
โ€ข Inform members of company loan policies, products, and services
โ€ข Counsel members regarding money management and financial matters as appropriate
โ€ข Coordinate loan origination functions with related departments and provide support as needed
โ€ข Keep management informed of pipeline activity and any significant issues
โ€ข Stay current on mortgage lending trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes
โ€ข Handle challenging situations confidently and professionally, including difficult conversations and time-sensitive decisions
โ€ข Perform additional duties as assigned

Experience

โ€ข 3โ€“5 years of mortgage origination experience required
โ€ข Proven sales record with a demonstrated history of meeting or exceeding production goals
โ€ข Prior credit union mortgage experience strongly preferred
โ€ข Bilingual skills are a significant plus

Education

โ€ข Associate degree or equivalent combination of education, specialized training, or industry experience
โ€ข Completion of specialized mortgage, lending, or financial services training is preferred

Required Skills & Qualifications

โ€ข Must possess a current and active NMLS license
โ€ข Must be able to successfully pass a background check
โ€ข Strong working knowledge of federal lending regulations, including FHA, VA, FNMA, and FHLMC guidelines
โ€ข Solid understanding of creditworthiness and loan qualification standards
โ€ข Knowledge of loan policies, mortgage products, processing, and underwriting guidelines
โ€ข Familiarity with title reports, insurance, and appraisal processes
โ€ข Excellent communication, public speaking, and interviewing skills
โ€ข Strong analytical, financial, and problem-solving abilities
โ€ข Proven ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and maintain attention to detail
โ€ข Outgoing, motivated, professional, and well-spoken demeanor
โ€ข Highly self-motivated while also working effectively within a team environment
โ€ข Remote work experience required
โ€ข Must have a dedicated remote workspace with reliable internet and phone service
โ€ข Proficiency with mortgage-related computer applications and systems

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods. Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally. Frequent use of a computer, telephone, and standard office equipment is required.
