Traveling Electrician โ€“ FAA Infrastructure / Airfield Systems

Overview

System One is seeking experienced Traveling Electricians to support a major FAA contract (Technical Support Services Contract 5 โ€“ T5). This program supports critical upgrades to the U.S. National Airspace System, including navigation, communication, and weather monitoring systems.

This is a fully travel-based role, supporting projects at airports and remote federal facilities across the United States.

Compensation & Travel

  • Pay Rate: $25โ€“$35/hr (based on experience & wage determination by home county)
  • Health & Welfare (H&W): Additional rate paid for first 40 hours/week
  • Per Diem: Provided per GSA guidelines
  • Travel Expenses: Fully reimbursed (airfare, lodging, mileage, rental vehicles, meals)
  • Overtime: 10โ€“20% typical during deployments

Note: Only working time (including travel time) is compensated. Rotations typically allow return home approximately every 6 weeks for about one week.

Schedule

  • Mondayโ€“Friday, approximately 7:00 AM โ€“ 4:00 PM
  • Overtime and extended hours may be required during deployments

Key Responsibilities

  • Install and upgrade FAA systems including:
    • Instrument Landing Systems (ILS)
    • Visual landing aids (PAPI, REIL)
    • Radar systems (ASR, ARSR)
    • Remote communications systems (RCAG, RTR)
  • Perform electrical and construction-related tasks:
    • Trenching and conduit installation (PVC, duct banks)
    • Installation of handholes, manholes, and site infrastructure
    • Equipment installation on towers, poles, and steel structures
  • Operate construction equipment (bobcat, mini excavator, ditch witch attachments)
  • Conduct testing and troubleshooting using electrical/electronic test equipment
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and project standards
  • Follow safety protocols and quality control procedures
  • Perform site cleanup and restoration activities

Required Qualifications

  • Must be an experienced Electrician (5+ years) No license required.
  • Experience with:
    • Underground and above-ground electrical installations
    • Industrial, infrastructure, or construction environments
    • Civil work elements (trenching, conduit, concrete, etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Ability to operate or work around heavy equipment
  • Willingness and ability to travel 100% nationwide
