Mid-Senior Transmission Planning & Interconnection Engineer,Renewables and Battery Storage
Locations: FULLY REMOTE (Anywhere in the USA) OR Houston, TX (HYBRID)
This an opportunity to join an industry leading renewable energy venture with strong private equity backing that is focused on the development and execution of dynamic utility-scale energy storage projects. They are at the forefront of the industry, have accumulated over 7GW of projects in a relatively short period of time, and are currently in an accelerated expansion phase which includes the addition of a Mid-Senior Transmission Planning & Interconnection Engineer.
It is a technical role in a group taking on next generation challenges in the battery storage space. This position sits on a Team that does Transmission, Interconnection, Engineering, and Market Operations assessments that are the crux of the portfolio's success. Fast paced work culture built for growth. The scope of this role could evolve based on the incumbent's background and their experience but an ideal candidate must have strong transmission power flow modelling skills (at the minimum).

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • The Mid-Sr. Transmission Planning Engineer facilitates transmission planning power flow studies, stability studies, and economic analysis utilizing PSS/E, PSCAD, ASPEN, MUST, TARA, PROMOD, Aurora, and/or PowerWorld
  • The Mid-Sr. Transmission Planning Engineer is heavily involved in renewable energy / battery storage interconnection application models
  • The Mid-Sr. Transmission Planning Engineer develops/supports/builds tools in Python, SQL, and/or MS Excel that automate the study process of analyzing output data flows from the model
  • The Mid-Sr. Transmission Planning Engineer evaluates the production and interconnection cost as well as strategies for curtailment and project optimization
  • The Mid-Sr. Transmission Planning Engineer monitors real-time energy pricing and market delivery options to support LMP, price forecasting, congestion predictions, and due diligence initiatives for commercial renewable energy / utility-scale battery storage transactions
  • The Mid-Sr. Transmission Planning Engineer supports renewable interconnection stakeholder (utilities, RTOs, ISOs..etc) and project management

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering preferably Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering
  • Power flow modeling experience with PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, ASPEN, MUST, TARA, and/or PowerWorld
  • Exposure to economic transmission market planning and analysis - PROMOD, GridView, UPlan, or Plexos is a PLUS
  • Understanding of electricity market policy and rules with respect to interconnection and transmission planning
  • Experience working with ISOs (independent system operator) and/or RTOs (regional transmission organization)
  • Working knowledge of Utility-scale renewable energy operations (Wind, Solar, Energy Storage, Battery Storage)
  • Solution driven "get it done" attitude, strong communication, and presentation skills
  • Previous experience working as a Transmission Planning Engineer, Transmission Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Power Systems Engineer, or Power Studies Engineer, Transmission Modeling Engineer, Systems Interconnection Engineer
