Remote Telemetry Technician

ย  ย  ย Department:ย  Monitor Roomย  ย  ย  ย Schedule: Full Time - Days (36 Hours) 7:00 pm -7:30 am - Every other Weekend (Saturday and Sunday)ย  ย  ย  ย Hospital: Henry Ford Health Genesysย  ย  ย  ย Location: Grand Blanc, Michigan ย  ย  This is a Union Position

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Telemetry Monitor Technician (TMT) works in a support role to the RN who is providing nursing care to the patients on the unit. The TMT provides accurate monitoring of patients' cardiac rhythm including prompt recognition and action for arrhythmias that are detrimental to the patient. Demonstrates clinical competency, compassion and customer service orientation, maintains focus on process and outcomes, and demonstrates cost consciousness when providing service to patients. The TMT will assist in the care and maintenance of departmental area, equipment and supplies.ย 

Under general supervision, the TMT will perform job duties and adhere to Remote Telemetry Policies and Procedures.

Responsibilities:

  1. Confers with department ordering Remote Telemetry in order to gather pertinent patient information data, including history of heart problems, code status, diagnosis, room number, and if patient has a pacemaker.
  2. Selects and prepares telemetry box for application to patient and inputs correct patient information into the Remote Central Monitoring Station (RCMS).
  3. Applies heart monitor to patient when initiating monitoring whenever possible.
  4. Explains remote monitoring process to the patient, answering questions and allaying concerns.
  5. Reflects respect for patients' rights, dignity, values, culture, preferences, and expressed needs.
  6. Accurately recognizes cardiac rhythms, documents and posts strips as defined by the Remote Telemetry monitoring process; acts promptly to intervene for the patient by notifying the room RN, SWAT, and Code Team as deemed necessary.
  7. Maintains all equipment in clean and proper working order, replenishing supplies as needed.
  8. Notifies a supervisor of equipment malfunctions.
  9. Prompt retrieval of telemetry boxes from patient/ unit upon patient discharge or discontinuation of remote telemetry monitoring.

Essential Functions:

  1. Ability to withstand continuous visual stimulus from cardiac monitor for a given shift.ย 
  2. Ability to accurately recognize and measure key EKG components.ย 
  3. Analytic skills necessary in order to review EKG data identify cardiac pathology and Dysrhythmia
  4. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail.ย 
  5. Able to walk, stand, and sit as required throughout the workday.ย 
  6. Must maintain patient confidentiality at all times according to HIPPA standards.ย 
  7. Must possess excellent interpersonal skill and diplomacy when dealing with peers, other departments, medical staff, patients, families, and visitors.ย 
  8. Mirrors the values held by Genesys Regional Medical Center.ย 

Working Conditions:|

Normal patient care environment with moderate exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature, etc. May encounter frequent exposure to communicable disease, hazardous substances, and moderately adverse Working Conditions due to the performance of patient care activities. | Orientation Requirements:| Must attend new employee orientation and department orientation. |

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified BLS Provider through the American Heart Association obtained within 3 months of hire or transfer date.
  • Will be required to pass a Basic Hospital Dysrhythmia course (as part of orientation) within the first 35 to 45 days of starting the position.ย 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent from an accredited program required.
  • Experience or Education in a medically related field preferred.
  • Requires successful completion ofย Dysrhythmiaย training and exam.
