What is a Remote Technical Science job?

A Remote Technical Science job involves applying scientific principles and technical skills to solve problems, conduct research, or develop products, all while working from a location outside of a traditional office or laboratory. These professionals often use digital tools to collaborate with teams, analyze data, write reports, and communicate findings. Common roles include data analysts, research scientists, or technical consultants specializing in fields such as biology, chemistry, engineering, or environmental science. Remote Technical Science positions allow for flexibility and can be found in academia, private industry, or government organizations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Technical Scientist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Technical Scientist, you need a solid background in scientific research or engineering, analytical problem-solving, and typically a relevant bachelor's or advanced degree. Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS), data analysis software like Python or R, and remote collaboration tools is highly valuable. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and adaptability are key soft skills for remote teamwork and independent research. These skills and qualities are essential for ensuring accurate scientific outcomes, effective virtual collaboration, and productivity outside traditional lab environments.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in remote technical science roles, and how can they be addressed?

Remote technical science professionals often encounter challenges such as maintaining effective communication with colleagues, accessing specialized equipment, and staying engaged with ongoing research. To address these, it's important to utilize collaborative tools like video conferencing and shared digital workspaces, proactively schedule regular meetings, and coordinate closely with on-site teams to ensure timely access to necessary resources. Additionally, setting clear goals and maintaining transparent documentation can help bridge the gap between remote and in-person work, fostering a productive and connected team environment.

Job description

PDMI is looking for an experienced Technical Product Analyst to support solution design, validate data and integrations, and ensure delivered functionality meets business, client, and regulatory expectations. The Technical Product Analyst serves as a critical bridge between business stakeholders, product, and engineering teams. This role is responsible for translating complex business needs into clear, technically sound requirements, and is ideal for someone who enjoys digging into data, understanding system behavior, and ensuring solutions are thoughtfully designed, thoroughly validated, and ready for release in a regulated environment.
Since 1984, PDMI has provided pharmacy data processing and other flexible, scalable solutions to help our clients meet their business objectives. We offer transparent, pass-through pharmacy processing and other services for private label Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs), vertically integrated health plans and hospital systems. In addition to Pharmacy Benefit Administrative Services, we offer 340B Administration, Hospice and Long-Term Care Services.
Why Join Us:
  • Best Employer: PDMI was voted Best Employer in Ohio for the 5th consecutive year in 2025!
  • Meaningful Work: Contribute to improving healthcare quality and efficiency.
  • Collaborative Environment: Work with passionate professionals who share your drive.
  • Exciting Challenges: Every day brings new opportunities to excel.
  • Flexible Work: Fully remote opportunity (from approved locations within the U.S.) with a company that cares.

What You'll Do:
As a Technical Product Analyst, you'll:
  • Gather, analyze, and refine business and technical requirements, translating needs into detailed functional and technical specifications.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to define solution approaches, user stories, acceptance criteria, and backlog priorities.
  • Perform data analysis and validation using SQL to support requirements, troubleshoot issues, and confirm system behavior.
  • Support system integrations by documenting data mappings, system-to-system flows, and API or interface requirements.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including backlog grooming, sprint planning, and release readiness activities.
  • Lead or support user acceptance testing (UAT), including test case creation, execution coordination, and defect validation.
  • Serve as a technical liaison for internal and external stakeholders, including participating in discovery sessions or solution reviews when needed.
  • Analyze post-release results to validate data accuracy, system performance, and fulfillment of requirements.
  • Ensure solutions comply with regulatory, audit, and data governance standards (e.g., HIPAA, PHI/PII).
  • Maintain clear, well-structured documentation including requirements, specifications, data mappings, process flows, and user guides.

What You Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in a Business Analyst, Senior Business Analyst, or similar role with increasing technical responsibility.
  • Experience supporting Agile teams and delivering requirements in iterative development environments.
  • Intermediate to advanced SQL skills, including joins, data validation, and troubleshooting across complex datasets.
  • Experience working with system integrations, APIs, or data flows across enterprise systems.
  • Familiarity with Agile tools such as Jira for backlog management and requirements tracking.
  • Experience documenting technical requirements, data mappings, and system behavior with a high level of accuracy and detail.
  • Experience in healthcare, PBM, claims processing, or other regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based environments and modern application architectures (e.g., AWS, microservices concepts).
  • Strong understanding of compliance considerations including HIPAA, PHI/PII handling, and audit-driven requirements.

Core Competencies:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Clear, effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Ability to manage priorities, adapt to change, and remain focused in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to quality, accountability, and continuous learning.
