Applied Research Solutions (ARS) is seeking a skilled Technical Writer experienced in documenting complex, structured data environments and policy-driven technical processes. This role supports an enterprise digitization effort by creating clear, high-quality documentation for data models, structured vocabularies, technical workflows, and associated tools used across a high-assurance environment.

Responsibilities include:
  • Document data models, structured vocabularies, controlled terminology, and the relationships between data objects.
  • Produce user-focused guides and reference materials explaining how to navigate and interact with the tools, data structures, and knowledge frameworks developed by the project team.
  • Create clear descriptions of end-to-end workflows, including actors involved, information transformations, system interactions, and decision logic.
  • Develop training content, presentations, and demonstrations that assist stakeholders in understanding and adopting new digital workflows and data structures.
  • Synthesize and organize inputs from SME interviews, workshops, working groups, and technical reviews into structured documentation.
  • Document design considerations, integration points, interoperability requirements, and risk-related guidance provided by engineering and architecture teams.
  • Produce supporting materials for project reviews, technical exchange sessions, and recurring status updates.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications/ Technical Experience Requirements:
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Bachelor's degree in Communication, Information Systems, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field.
  • 4-5 years of experience producing highly technical documentation in domains such as data engineering, systems engineering, digital transformation, knowledge management, or similar environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to document complex data structures, schemas, workflows, and system interactions.
  • Experience working with or documenting JSON schemas, ontologies, taxonomies, or structured data models.
  • Ability to translate SME-level explanations into clear written content for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Must have a Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience documenting policy-driven or compliance-sensitive technical environments.
  • Familiarity with enterprise architecture concepts, data governance, or controlled terminology management.
  • Background developing training materials for complex technical systems.
  • Experience supporting Government or highly regulated technical programs.
  • Ability to produce both detailed technical documents and high-level executive communication products.
