Job description

Company Description

We are a boutique IT recruiting agency that strictly works with IT consulting companies and managed services providers.  We place candidates on a permanent, full time basis (no contract or contract-to-hire positions).

Job Description

Technical Project Manager - MSP / IT Infrastructure

Remote - United States
$90,000-$95,000 + Benefits
Travel to Southern California / Los Angeles County for initial training and approximately 1-2 company visits per year

We are recruiting for a Technical Project Manager opportunity with an established managed IT services company that has been serving small and midsized businesses for more than 25 years.

This is a remote position focused on leading the successful delivery of IT infrastructure and software implementation projects across multiple client environments.

This is not a traditional non-technical project management position.

The ideal candidate will come from an MSP background and combine strong project leadership skills with significant hands-on infrastructure experience. You should be comfortable planning and coordinating projects while also understanding the underlying technology well enough to lead technical discussions, troubleshoot issues and perform implementation work when necessary.

This could be an excellent opportunity for an experienced MSP Project Engineer, Senior Systems Engineer or Infrastructure Engineer who has already been leading projects and is ready to move into a dedicated Technical Project Manager role.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Own assigned IT projects from approved scope through planning, implementation, testing, documentation and final handoff

  • Translate scopes of work into detailed project plans with tasks, owners, dependencies, milestones, estimated effort and completion criteria

  • Manage multiple concurrent projects across different client environments

  • Lead infrastructure projects including server installations and upgrades, Active Directory migrations, Microsoft 365 implementations, Azure projects, virtualization projects, network upgrades, firewall deployments, workstation rollouts and disaster recovery initiatives

  • Coordinate technicians, engineers, vendors, client contacts and internal stakeholders throughout each project

  • Lead project kickoffs, technical working sessions, status meetings and completion reviews

  • Validate technical prerequisites including equipment, licensing, backups, access, documentation, maintenance windows and rollback plans

  • Track project scope, schedules, budgeted effort, dependencies, risks and resource requirements

  • Identify potential problems early and escalate technical or project-related blockers before they impact delivery

  • Provide hands-on technical implementation and troubleshooting when necessary

  • Perform structured testing and quality assurance before projects are considered complete

  • Maintain accurate technical and project documentation including configurations, diagrams, credentials, decisions, changes and test results

  • Ensure completed projects are handed off cleanly to ongoing support teams

  • Participate in post-project reviews and help improve project delivery processes

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience working for a Managed Service Provider (MSP)

  • Significant experience leading multiple concurrent IT infrastructure projects across different client environments

  • Strong hands-on Windows Server administration experience including server deployment and configuration

  • Strong Active Directory and Group Policy experience including domain controller deployment and domain administration

  • Strong Microsoft Azure administration experience

  • Strong networking experience including routers, switches, VLANs and firewalls

  • Experience configuring and deploying firewalls

  • Experience with virtualization technologies including Hyper-V and/or VMware ESXi

  • Experience with Microsoft 365 environments and migrations

  • Ability to take an approved scope of work and independently turn it into an organized, executable project plan

  • Strong understanding of project scheduling, resource coordination, risk management, change control, testing, documentation and operational handoff

  • Ability to coordinate technical resources effectively without necessarily having direct supervisory authority

  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to make sound technical decisions during project implementation

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills

  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight

Nice to Have

Experience with any of the following is helpful but not required:

  • HaloPSA

  • Kaseya

  • NinjaOne

  • Hudu

  • IT Glue

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This company has built an unusually stable team and client base over more than 25 years in business. They place a strong emphasis on employee retention, work-life balance, professional development and giving experienced employees the autonomy to do their jobs without constant micromanagement.

Additional highlights include:

  • Remote work

  • Very low employee turnover

  • Long-term client relationships

  • Mature processes, procedures and documentation

  • Dedicated 24/7/365 technical coverage, so this position is not the first responder for routine after-hours or holiday support incidents

  • Strong Help Desk and Support Desk teams

  • Significant autonomy and minimal micromanagement

  • Career development and advancement opportunities

  • Comprehensive benefits

Compensation and Location

The salary range for this position is $90,000-$95,000, depending on experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package.

This position can be performed remotely from anywhere in the United States.

Candidates must be willing and able to travel to Southern California / Los Angeles County for initial training and approximately 1-2 times per year thereafter for company meetings or other business needs.

If you are an experienced MSP infrastructure professional who enjoys owning projects, coordinating resources and seeing technical implementations through from planning to successful completion, we would like to hear from you.
