Job description

Polar Field Services, Inc. is seeking a resourceful and resilient Seasonal Utility Technician to join our team at Summit Station, Greenland, for a unique winter experience. If you're looking for a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to work in a remote and breathtaking environment, this is your chance.

Dates of Employment: Approximately October 15, 2026 - February 15, 2027

What You'll Experience:

  • Remote Living: Be part of a small, tight-knit team of 5 at the isolated Summit Station.
  • Unique Environment: Witness the stunning beauty of the Arctic winter, including spectacular skies and the challenges of extreme cold.
  • Essential Role: Contribute to the smooth operation of the station by performing vital utility maintenance tasks.
  • Self-Sufficiency: Share in cooking and cleaning duties, fostering a collaborative living environment.
  • Personal Space: Enjoy your own room.
  • Isolation & Immersion: Experience true isolation with no flights in or out during the winter months.
  • Travel Adventure: Fly internationally to Iceland and then take a Twin Otter flight to Summit Station.
  • Comprehensive Training: Participate in a week-long, in-person training session in Denver prior to deployment.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive facility utilities maintenance.
  • Maintain and repair HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Utilize construction materials, tools, and methods effectively.
  • Adhere to Health, Safety, and Environmental protocols.
  • Contribute to the daily operations of Summit Station, including shared cooking and cleaning duties.
  • Adapt to a flexible work schedule based on weather and operational needs.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of four (4) years of documented experience in facility utilities maintenance.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Proficiency with construction materials, tools, and methods.
  • Familiarity with Health, Safety, and Environmental structures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid United States Passport.

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):

  • EPA Section 608 Technician Certification, NATE certification, NITC certification; HVAC Excellence.
  • ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) certifications.
  • Previous accredited OSHA training.
  • Experience with commercial/industrial facility maintenance and construction.
  • Experience with low voltage controls and wiring.
  • Previous experience in remote, cold, and/or polar environments.

Work Schedule:

  • 9-hour days, 6 days per week, with Sundays off.
  • Occasional additional hours as needed.
  • Schedule flexibility based on weather and work requirements.
