Job description

Designer - Renewable Structural

About the Position

As a Structural Designer in the Renewable Structural group, you will be responsible for the design and detailing of steel, concrete, and foundation systems for utility-scale solar, wind, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and substations nationwide. This position will work collaboratively with engineers and multi-disciplinary teams to develop high-quality construction deliverables. Structural Designers are responsible for drafting and modeling in a manner that ensures accurate, buildable, and cost-effective designs are delivered on time and within budget.

This opportunity is available to local / in-office (Lakewood, Colorado) and full-time remote candidates.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed structural design and drafting for utility-scale renewable projects, including:
  • Steel racking systems and supports for PV solar arrays
  • Wind turbine foundations, anchor bolt layouts, and tower interface details
  • BESS enclosure foundations and steel support structures
  • Substation steel structures, bus supports, equipment stands, and transmission pole framing
  • Produce structural drawing packages including:
  • General arrangement drawings, foundation plans/sections, reinforcing details
  • Steel framing plans, elevations, and connection details
  • Structure loading diagrams, fabrication drawings, and installation details
  • Support engineers with preparation of design calculations, construction details, and material take-offs
  • Check and coordinate designs to ensure accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project specifications and codes
  • Assist with review of vendor/shop drawings and submittals for conformance with project requirements
  • Perform limited field inspections to verify as-built conditions and support construction teams
  • Collaborate across disciplines (civil, electrical, and mechanical) to ensure alignment between site design and structural systems
  • Apply knowledge of relevant Codes and Standards (IBC, ACI, AISC, ASCE 7, IEEE, etc.)
  • Understanding of applicable Codes and Standards
  • Other duties as assigned
Must Have
  • Education: Associates degree in related field preferred
  • Experience: 3 - 5+ years of drafting, design, engineering, or related experience
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite required
  • A strong command of the English language
  • Possesses effective written and oral communications skills
  • Good interpersonal and people skills
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
Nice to Have
  • Proficiency with and/or knowledge of modeling and design software PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE would be a plus
  • Proficiency with Civil 3D would be a plus
  • Proficiency with MicroStation would be a plus
