Job description

About the Position

As a Structural Engineer within the Renewable Structural group, you will play a dual role as both a technical contributor and a project phase manager. This position involves leading the structural design of renewable generation and utility substation facilities, while also overseeing the internal management of project scope, schedule, and budget. You will be responsible for producing and reviewing high-quality design packages, coordinating with internal teams, and serving as a key point of contact for clients. This role requires strong technical proficiency, leadership in QA/QC processes, and the ability to communicate complex engineering concepts clearly to both internal stakeholders and clients.

This opportunity is available to both local / in-office (Lakewood, Colorado) and full-time remote candidates.

Essential ResponsibilitiesProject Phase Management Responsibilities
  • Oversees project planning, scheduling, and coordination for small to large-scale substation projects, while leading client communication, aligning on expectations, and partnering with Team Leads to manage resources, budgets, and timelines.
  • Manages internal scope of work, tracking progress, identifying risks, and ensuring alignment with client expectations through regular technical updates and reporting.
  • Leads the production and initial QA/QC review of comprehensive design packages, including steel structures, MPT foundations, concrete slabs, and drilled piers, ensuring technical accuracy prior to final quality review.
  • Coordinates with internal stakeholders to ensure timely completion of engineering deliverables.
  • Provides training and mentorship to junior team members, fostering technical growth and team development.
  • Develops and maintains strong client relationships, ensuring satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Maintains high ethical and professional standards in all aspects of work.
  • Participates in professional development activities including conferences, workshops, and continuing education as needed.
Structural Engineering Responsibilities
  • Performs detailed structural design for all aspects of electric power supply facilities including utility, industrial and commercial substations.
  • Conducts hand and computer-based calculations and modeling for structural components, including steel structures, drilled piers, footings, slabs, and mat foundations.
  • Prepares and reviews technical specifications for materials, construction, and steel components.
  • Prepares technical documentation including cost estimates, proposals, studies, and budget reports.
  • Performs field inspection and construction supervision services.
  • Reviews and checks the work of designers, drafters, and field personnel for quality and accuracy.
  • Understanding and applications of applicable Codes and Standards.
  • Applies relevant codes and standards to ensure structural designs meet regulatory and industry requirements.
  • Works with other project team members to produce project deliverables as assigned.
  • Attends safety training and consistently adheres to all safety protocols and guidelines.
Must Have
  • Education: Bachelor's in Civil/Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology from an accredited institution, electric power option preferred
  • Experience: 0-2years of relevant engineering or field experience
  • Licensure: FE, PE is a plus, but not required
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD,SAP2000, L-Pile, MathCad, and PLS-CADD is a plus
  • Strong understanding of structural analysis, including steel, concrete and foundation design
  • Familiar with corrosion analysis of steel piles
  • Ability to develop staff through mentoring
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Project
  • Must be self-motivated, well-organized, and a skilled decision maker that is comfortable in a fast-paced design environment
  • Possesses excellent problem-solving skills
  • Commercial understanding of the engineering or construction industries
  • Possesses effective written and oral communications skills
  • Good interpersonal and people skills
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
Nice to Have
  • Possess a strong understanding of the ASCE 7 loading and applicable IBC, ACI, AISC, ANSI, ASTM, IEC, and IEEE
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD required or can obtain within six (6) months of employment
  • Proficiency or can obtain proficiency within six (6) months of employment with SAP2000, STAAD, Revit, Risa3D, L-pile, or other structural analysis software
