What are remote software jobs?

Remote software jobs are positions in the technology sector where professionals work from locations outside the traditional office, typically from home or anywhere with internet access. These roles involve designing, developing, testing, or maintaining software applications and can include titles like software developer, engineer, or QA tester. Remote software jobs offer flexibility and often require strong communication skills and self-motivation. Companies use collaborative tools and platforms to manage workflow and team interactions for remote employees.

How do remote software developers typically collaborate effectively with their teams despite not sharing a physical workspace?

Remote software developers rely heavily on digital collaboration tools such as version control systems, video conferencing, and project management platforms to stay connected with their teams. Regularly scheduled stand-up meetings, code reviews, and clear documentation are essential to ensure everyone is aligned and projects progress smoothly. While remote work offers flexibility, it also requires strong communication skills and self-discipline to manage tasks and deadlines independently. Teams often establish clear guidelines and use asynchronous communication to accommodate different time zones, helping maintain productivity and a sense of teamwork.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Software Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Software Engineer, you need strong programming skills, problem-solving abilities, and a relevant degree or equivalent experience in computer science or software development. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, cloud platforms, and collaboration tools such as Slack or Jira is typically required. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and time management are crucial soft skills for remote teamwork and productivity. Job description

About Salvo Software

Salvo Software is a tight-knit team of Software builders, problem-solvers, and technology enthusiasts on a mission to help businesses grow through custom software. Headquartered in Vancouver, WA, with engineering talent across the globe, we deliver enterprise-grade solutions with the speed and care that only a passionate, people-first team can offer.

We're not a faceless tech giant. We're a small company with a lot of heart, a growing roster of happy clients, and big ambitions. What we need now is someone who loves people, thrives on networking, and knows how to forge and foster relationships.

We're looking for a driven, personable Outside Sales Representative to be the face of Salvo Software in the field. Your job isn't to be a software engineer; it's to be a connector. You'll identify businesses that could benefit from a trusted technology partner, build genuine relationships, and bring the right people to the table so our team can take it from there.

If you're energized by networking, love a great conversation, and have a knack for spotting opportunity, this role was built for you.

What You'll Do
  • Network. Attend industry events, meetups, and conferences. Build your local and regional network and put Salvo Software on the map in new markets.
  • Start conversations that matter. Prospect and cold outreach to identify businesses that are ready for a technology partner, and make a compelling case for why that partner should be us.
  • Listen first, sell second. Lead initial discovery conversations to understand what a prospect is dealing with, then work with our architects to propose a fitting long-term solution that has their best interests in mind. We are not here to turn and burn.
  • Shepherd the deal. Collaborate with our technical team to develop proposals and own the relationship through to close. This will involve effort on your part to organize, but we will leverage several talented team members to come up with a solid plan.
  • Stay organized and accountable. Keep your pipeline clean and current in HubSpot, track your activity, and report on what's working.
  • Build for the long haul. We want clients who stick around. Nurture relationships even after a deal is done.

Requirements

You need to have:

  • Proven sales experience - you've worked a pipeline, hit targets, and know what it takes to move a deal forward
  • Hands-on HubSpot experience, including lead management and pipeline tracking
  • Strong communication skills - you're comfortable in a boardroom, at a networking happy hour, and on a cold call
  • Self-starter mentality - this is a remote-friendly role, and you'll own your own schedule and strategy
  • Comfort with a performance-driven comp structure

It helps if you have:

  • Tech savviness - you don't need to write code, but being comfortable talking about software, websites, apps, and digital tools will make a real difference in how you connect with prospects
  • An existing network in the Pacific Northwest or broader U.S. business community
  • Experience selling services (vs. products) - understanding how to sell expertise and outcomes is a big plus
  • A four-year degree in technology or business administration
  • A background in software or IT; we'll teach you what you need to know about what we do
