Job description

With over 70 years of operating experience, Primoris Power Delivery services include engineering and design, installation and maintenance, material and equipment procurement, repair of electrical transmission, distribution, substation, wireless communication, and storm restoration. Our experience ranges from small engineering and consulting projects to multi-million dollar turn-key distribution, substation, and transmission line programs.

The Lead Transmission Engineer is responsible for transmission line engineering including detailed design for high voltage transmission projects through 500kv. Depending upon complexity of the project, the lead engineer may prepare, provide guidance, or assist in preparing and developing the engineering deliverables for electric transmission projects - including line routing, structure selection & design, plan & profile drawings, hardware & conductor selection, equipment & construction specifications, and all associated calculations. Detailed knowledge of NESC code requirements and transmission & structure design software (PLSCADD, PLS-Pole, PLS-Tower, Sag10, AutoCad, etc) is required. Candidate will be responsible for working closely with other engineering and design team members to coordinate overall design package and requirements. Other duties include developing technical specifications, providing direction and guidance to drafters and designers, directing the flow of drafting and designer duties, ensuring design schedules are met, including regularly providing project status updates to project engineers. Responsible for handling multiple projects and providing a detailed design package that complies with applicable engineering design standards and all safety codes

  • Lead a collaborative team to understand scope, prepare deliverables, and provide project updates.
  • Perform cost effective designs based on industry, company, and/or client standards.
  • Generate design criteria, reports, design verifications, and clearance tables for Power Line Systems (PLS-CADD).
  • Build and modify pole and tower models for PLS-CADD design.
  • Develop construction assembly drawings, material selection, and structure loading packages for submittal to vendors.
  • Develop construction specification packages that include drawings, one lines, phasing, and standard installation specifications
  • Travel out of town for short periods of time as required by projects and assignments.
  • Attend and lead external and internal meetings to support processes.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • PE registration required.
  • At least 7+ years’ experience designing and engineering transmission lines between 69kV and 500kV.
  • Proficient in PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole and PLS-Tower.
  • Knowledge of MFAD, LPILE, and NESC requirements as well as NESC, ASCE, IEEE, and RUS design standards.
  • Fast-paced office environment; must be able to interact professionally with all levels of management while simultaneously managing a diversified workload and challenging situations efficiently and effectively.
  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment.
