Summary
As NASA's Human Research Program (HRP) Lead for Exploration Programs you will be responsible for strategic developments to ensure: HRP's applied research data are directly informing all Human Spaceflight Programs and HRP's knowledge gaps are driving MoonBase mission objectives. The position requires close coordination and influence across all levels of JSC, HSMD, SMD and International Partners.

Help
  • Develop and lead HRP's Artemis and MoonBase Program strategies and influencing Agency plans to ensure the human system research reqirements are captured adequately as we implement Moon and Mars missions.
  • HRP representative to the Exploration Control Boards.
  • Lead International Working groups to coordinate human research and technology developments.
  • Development of combined Medical and Human Research requirements for Artemis and MoonBase missions. Integration of requirements across research, medical operations, Artemis, MoonBase and International Partners.
  • Initiate and leading the coordination of HRP activities across HRP and NASA's Science Mission Directorate.
  • Conduct trade studies, investigations, and engineering analyses to find solutions to critical problems in design, production, analysis, and operations.
  • Maintain project schedules that reflect both tactical and strategic plans.
  • Implement systems engineering tools, methods, and processes to integrate cost, schedules, and risk analyses into effective strategic communication recommendations.

Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.
NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement.
To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level:
  • Communicating science benefits and science requirements to diverse sets of engineering and program management stakeholders;
  • Working across diverse internal and external stakeholders to negotiate, develop, secure resources, and implement science requirements for human life science experiments and projects;
  • Providing leadership of human spaceflight teams to accomplish complex projects across varying stakeholders in pursuit of enabling humans to voyage out into the solar system.

Education
Basic Education Requirement:
You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following:
a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs
b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science
c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus; and that provided an in-depth knowledge of theoretical and practical applications of computer science, including digital computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations.
If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above.
Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
