Job description

Artistree Home is looking to hire a remote Project Architect (PA) / Project Manager for a number of upcoming nature-centered hospitality projects and award-winning residential treehouses.  The PA/PM ideally would be licensed to practice architecture in the state of California or Texas, or be eligible for immediate reciprocity in one of those states.  Candidates will start as an hourly employee on a project-to-project basis, with full-time employment available immediately for the right candidate.  Our ideal candidate is value-aligned with Artistree Home’s mission and interested in growing with us long-term.

The PA shall provide technical expertise for Artistree’s design services. Reporting to the Head of Design, the PA may act as the Architect-of-Record for select Artistree design projects that require licensure and oversee completion of submittal plan sets in compliance with the applicable codes.


Main Areas of Responsibility:
  • In tandem with Head of Design, oversee the completion of architectural drawings and presentation materials and associated management of draftspeople

  • Review plan sets for quality control and compliance

  • Provide technical direction, red-lines, and coordination in the preparation of architectural designs, specifications, applications, and permit-ready drawing sets

  • Coordination with design team and external consultants to ensure a successful permit documentation and application process

  • Production of architectural drawings as part of the broader design team’s efforts

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable building codes, state procedures, and other government regulatory requirements

  • Lead the team in the use of various softwares and best practices for effective, efficient delivery of work products

  • Inform graphic styles, templates, etc for Artistree plan sets


Experience:
  • Experience as a registered Architect, including preparation of contract documents and overseeing the permitting process

  • Working and communicating effectively with other designers and consultants to ensure successful project delivery

  • Experience in construction, construction administration, working in design-build teams, latest building science trends, and/or detailing preferred

  • Any experience with permaculture, alternative / earthen building, ecological site planning, or boutique structures (tiny houses, treehouses) a plus

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Bluebeam; experience with ArchiCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Enscape or other rendering softwares, and Google applications (drive, sheets, docs, etc) preferred but not required

  • Knowledge of and dedication to sustainable design principles

  • Preferred experience working with and within tight project budgets


Compensation: Commensurate with experience
Location:

Artistree is based out of Sonoma County, CA and Austin, TX, with a fabrication workshop near Chattanooga, TN.  This position is remote but requires residency in CA, TX, or GA. Preference given to applicants in the Austin, Texas or Central Texas area.  Ideal applicants are able to travel to perform Construction Administration tasks as needed (likely 3-5 projects in 2025). Applicants must have excellent written and spoken English proficiency and be authorized to work in the USA.
