Job description

Scope of Job
As the Senior Project Engineer you will support the company's mission of engineering and constructing solar, storage, and EVSE projects. The SPE is responsible for managing all engineering aspects of commercial solar, storage, and EVSE opportunities from notice to proceed through construction and close out. Projects are typically between 500 kW and 10 MW in size. The position serves both the behind the meter and front of the meter projects. The SPE will be a key player in technical development and engineering, and be a self-starting, creative, and motivated individual who has a proven history of successfully building complex projects.

THIS POSTING IS FOR A CURRENT VACANCY AND THE EMPLOYER INTENDS TO FILL THIS POSITION BY 8/30/26.
Location
This role would be required to be a hybrid role out of one of our offices (Mountain View, CA, San Diego, CA, Los Angeles, CA. or New York, NY) or fully remote.
Responsibilities
  • 75% - Project Execution
    • Work with project team (internal project manager and coordinator, engineering, and third-party consultants) to manage engineering scope of a project, from site due-diligence and permitting activities to construction and commissioning activities
    • Ensure compliance with and continuity between Project Agreements (EPC, PPA, Leases, Interconnection Agreements) by effectively managing engineering firms and equipment vendors, and ensuring that the project as described in permit plans and contracts remains technically and economically feasible.
    • Manage consultant solicitations for project specific requirements (e.g., relays, wetlands, civil, zoning, etc.) and manage consultant contracts throughout project execution
    • Oversee cadence with customer during design phase and construction phase
    • Organize design package with Engineering firms
    • Manage equipment procurement process and ensure cost-effectiveness of technical solution
    • Maintain equipment and engineering vendor relations
    • Maintain project budget and track cost changes throughout project
    • Perform inspections during the installation process
    • Manage utility commissioning and testing
    • Collaborate with Operations and Maintenance Group, and Asset Management team for project close out and handoff
  • 25% - Technical Review
    • Support the due diligence and review of energy storage, microgrid, PV and EVSE design applications to value engineer, ensure compliance, risk reduction, and design optimization.
    • Provide support for evaluation of third-party designs and controls schemes
    • Work with equipment vendors to ensure hardware, communications, and software platform meets customer, permitting and all technical requirements
    • Contribute to Design best practices and technical offerings that can be applied to different geographies and use cases
    • Overall project design and validation

Qualifications
Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree: Electrical Engineering Preferred, other Engineering or STEM degree
  • 3-5+ years of experience in Solar or BESS system design/project engineering
  • Experience with medium and high voltage equipment preferred
  • Experience with EVSE a plus

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
  • Working knowledge of National Building & Electrical Code as it pertains to energy storage, photovoltaic and EVSE
  • Working knowledge of SCADA/relay/curtailment systems
  • Ability to articulate complex issues through succinct, cohesive summaries and presentations
  • Possess a diplomatic, persuasive, and articulate communication style
  • Ability to work well in a team environment with proven attention to detail
  • Willingness to embrace and defend a culture of respect, communication, and accountability
  • Ability to travel periodically to job sites

Compensation
The pay range for this position is $128,610 - $157,190 annually. This position is eligible for PowerFlex's comprehensive Health and Welfare plans including but not limited to medical, dental, vision, 401(k) retirement plan and paid time off. The total compensation for this position may include an annual performance bonus (or other incentive compensation, as applicable). PowerFlex's compensation packages carefully consider a candidate's qualifications, experiences, and education in relation to the position.
Physical Requirements
Remaining in a seated position. Long hours on computer keyboard. Prolonged periods of standing and/or walking.
Working Conditions
Approximately 80% of the time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher and Adobe etc.), telephones, and general office equipment. Possibly 20% of the time is spent traveling to conferences or meetings or field traveling to project sites.
