Position:  Project Engineer I

Position Overview:

This position is bond-eligible and is strictly limited to work associated with capital 
construction, modernization, and sustainability projects as defined under the BuildLACCD Bond 
Program. Duties performed under this position shall not include routine maintenance, repair, or 
operational tasks that fall within the responsibilities of facilities Maintenance & Operations 
(M&O). The scope of this role is exclusively tied to bond-eligible activities such as planning, 
design, construction, commissioning, and related project management functions necessary to deliver 
capital improvements consistent with LACCD's Capital Construction Bond Program requirements and 
legal limitations governing bond fund expenditures.

The Project Engineer I - Sustainability position provides technical and administrative support to 
the BuildLACCD Sustainability Team in the planning, design, procurement, construction, 
implementation, commissioning, and closeout of sustainability and energy-related capital 
improvement projects 

throughout the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD). Working under the direction of the 
Sustainability Strike Team Lead, this position assists in coordinating projects that advance the 
District's sustainability initiatives to include Energy Information Systems (EIS), Building 
Management Systems (BMS), central plant optimization, LED lighting upgrades, energy efficiency 
retrofits, renewable energy systems, microgrids, electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, 
electrification, and other sustainability projects.

 Provide technical and engineering support to the project managers and sustainability team 
throughout all phases of the project.
 Support implementation of District sustainability initiatives including energy efficiency, 
electrification, renewable energy and carbon reduction strategies.
 Coordinates with Project Managers, Architect, Engineers, Contractors and District Personnel to 
resolve technical issues and accurate responses to requests for information (RFIs).
 Responsible for the maintenance and distribution of current contract plans and 
specifications.
 Confirms contractor's maintenance of record drawings prior to monthly progress payments to the 
Contractor.
 Makes field checks on construction to determine compliance with job specifications and plans, 
established College standards, and Division of the State Architect (DSA) Requirements.
 Documents progress of projects, logging photographs, daily project reports and notes as 
required.
 Assists in preparing written materials including correspondence, reports, procedures, and 
guidelines.
 Logs and tracks status of project change order proposals, field orders, and approved change 
orders.
 Maintains project files and record drawings.
 Logs and reviews submittals for conformance to plans and specifications.
 Assists in coordinating and recording minutes of meetings with project stakeholders.
 Assists in review of submittal procedures, RFI's and monthly invoices.
 Performs other project support duties as directed.


Minimum Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar or equivalent position involved in project or construction management of commercial and/or public or educational facility construction projects with values in excess of $15M
BS/BA Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Business, Construction Management or related field required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM)
Experience with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified projects and/or the Collaborative for High Performing Schools (CHPS)
Experience with Division of the State Architect (DSA) construction/design process
