A Remote Project Coordinator is a professional responsible for organizing, managing, and tracking the progress of projects while working outside of a traditional office setting, usually from home or another remote location. They communicate with team members, schedule meetings, track deadlines, and ensure that project objectives are met on time and within budget. Remote Project Coordinators use digital tools and platforms to facilitate collaboration and maintain clear communication among all stakeholders, making them essential for distributed or virtual teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Project Coordinator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Project Coordinator, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a background in project management, often supported by a relevant degree or certification like CAPM or PMP. Familiarity with project management software such as Asana, Trello, or Microsoft Project, and virtual communication tools like Zoom and Slack, is typically required. Excellent communication, time management, and problem-solving abilities help you collaborate effectively and adapt to changing project needs. These skills and qualifications are vital for ensuring projects stay on track and stakeholders remain aligned despite working remotely.

How does a Remote Project Coordinator effectively manage team communication and collaboration across different time zones?

As a Remote Project Coordinator, effective communication is crucial, especially when team members are distributed globally. Coordinators typically use collaboration tools like Slack, Microsoft Teams, or Asana to keep everyone aligned, and they often schedule meetings at overlapping hours to ensure maximum participation. Adapting communication styles, setting clear expectations, and documenting updates in shared platforms help bridge time zone gaps. Regular check-ins and status reports are essential to identify challenges early and maintain project momentum.

Job description

Who We Are

Atwell, LLC is a bold leader in the consulting, engineering, and construction services industry, delivering a broad range of creative solutions to clients in the real estate & land development, and energy markets. We have a strong national presence and a diverse, award-winning project portfolio. Atwell is a privately owned company, with 2,000+ passionate team members across 75+ locations and growing!

Atwell, LLC is a proud recipient of the following 2025 awards:

  • Ten consecutive years in a row as a "Best Place to Work" by Zweig Group (#11)
  • Recognized as #70 in the ENR Top 500 Design Firms, ranked in every region
  • Recognized in Crain's "Fast 50" as one of the fastest-growing companies (#14)
  • Recognized as the 2025 ENR Design Firm of the year for the Southeastern US

Atwell is seeking an Associate Project Manager to support a major energy utility client across a portfolio of land and right of way (ROW) projects. In this role, you'll partner closely with a Project Manager while building the skills to independently manage project delivery—from planning through execution—while developing strong client relationships.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone ready to step into project leadership, gaining hands-on experience managing scope, budgets, schedules, and land acquisition efforts tied to critical energy infrastructure.

While this role is remote, proximity to Michigan is strongly preferred due to regular client engagement and regional travel.

Project Delivery & Execution

  • Support the Project Manager in implementing project plans, including scope, schedule, staffing, and budgets
  • Monitor project progress, analyze performance, and proactively address risks or delays
  • Coordinate land and ROW activities including easements, rights of entry, surface agreements, and related documentation
  • Maintain organized project files and ensure compliance with Atwell quality standards
  • Assist in managing project financials, including budgets, invoicing, and tracking performance

Team & Client Coordination

  • Serve as a key point of coordination between internal teams, subconsultants, and clients
  • Help assemble and support project teams, ensuring alignment and productivity
  • Communicate project updates clearly to stakeholders and leadership
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment and mentor junior staff as you grow in the role

Business Development & Growth

  • Support proposal efforts, presentations, and client follow-ups
  • Help identify opportunities for continued or expanded work within existing client relationships
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and industry partners

Professional Development

  • Continue building technical expertise across land, engineering, and project delivery disciplines
  • Participate in professional organizations, training, and industry events to expand your network and knowledge

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Land Planning, Land Surveying, or related field
  • 4 years of experience in land, engineering, environmental, or project coordination roles (energy/utility experience required)
  • Exposure to land and ROW projects, including easements, property rights, or acquisition support
  • Understanding of project lifecycle management, including budgeting, scheduling, and team coordination
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work across teams and with clients
  • Experience with tools such as Deltek Vision or similar project management systems is a plus
  • Professional certifications (AAPL, SR/WA, PE, RLA, etc.) are a plus
