The Opportunity

Altus Group is currently seeking a Candidate in the position of a Cost Analyst based out of our Calgary or Edmonton locations to join our Development Advisory group. The Analyst will be responsible for providing assistance to senior staff in professional high-quality cost consulting services to allow accurate and timely delivery of estimates for various construction sectors and project management/monitoring.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Calculate quantities and/or measurements of specific building elements based upon drawings and/or other contract documentation for detailed and/or conceptual estimates

  • Assist and/or execute the development, compilation and/or finalization of cost estimates within designated time frames

  • Provide general project administration and main project filing and archiving to ensure up to date documentation is available

  • Conduct research and price checking of items in the market (telephone and/or internet searching) to provide project and cost data cost information

Key Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma in Architectural Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Construction Management, Architecture, Building Science, Construction, Quantity Surveying or in a related field

  • 0-2 years of estimating/cost consulting experience. Knowledge and/or understanding of the local construction industry (ICI sector projects), public and private owners, general contractors, sub-trades, contracts, Lien Acts, pricing, method of measurement, etc.

  • Good understanding of building systems, their functionality within various building types, and square foot costs along with design requirements for different structures.

  • Working towards PQS and / or MRICS designation is an asset

  • Basic understanding of CIQS standard methods of measurement, Elemental Format, Uniformat, Masterformat, typical procurement and contract conditions (e.g. CCDC)

  • Excellent knowledge of Excel, Word, and computer estimating software

  • Good communication skills, including interpersonal, written, and presentation abilities, with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.

  • Highly self-motivated and adaptable, demonstrating integrity, honesty, and ethics while thriving in both team-oriented and independent work environments.
