What is a Remote Process Safety professional?

A Remote Process Safety professional is an expert who works primarily online or off-site to identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with industrial processes, ensuring the safety of people, property, and the environment. They focus on evaluating and managing hazards related to chemicals, equipment, and operations from a distance, often using digital tools and remote monitoring systems. Their work includes reviewing safety protocols, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations—all while collaborating virtually with onsite teams.

What is the difference between Remote Process Safety vs Remote Process Engineer?

While both roles require technical knowledge, Remote Process Safety emphasizes safety standards and hazard mitigation, whereas Remote Process Engineers focus on process efficiency and engineering design.

How does a Remote Process Safety professional effectively collaborate with on-site teams to ensure compliance and safety standards are maintained?

Remote Process Safety professionals often leverage digital tools, such as video conferencing and real-time monitoring software, to communicate regularly with on-site teams. They review process data, incident reports, and maintenance records remotely, providing guidance and recommendations to ensure safety standards are upheld. Success in this role typically requires strong communication skills and the ability to interpret complex data from afar, as well as building trust with on-site staff to facilitate transparent information sharing. Frequent virtual meetings and occasional site visits (when possible) help maintain alignment and address emerging safety concerns promptly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Process Safety Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Process Safety Engineer, you need a solid background in chemical or process engineering, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance, usually supported by a relevant engineering degree and experience in process industries. Familiarity with tools such as HAZOP, LOPA, PHA software, and safety management systems, as well as certifications like CSP or CCPSC, is common. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and effective remote communication are standout soft skills for this role. These competencies are crucial for identifying risks, ensuring compliance, and maintaining safety in complex process operations from a remote setting.

Job description

Description
Gaggle has been supporting student safety and well-being for more than 20 years and is currently serving 5.2 million students. We help K-12 districts manage student safety on school-provided technology, offer tele-therapy to students and staff and we've helped hundreds of districts avoid tragedies and save lives.
Gaggle is in the phase of building our Crisis Counselor team. We are seeking Independent Contractors for positions of Crisis Counselor. This contract work allows you the flexibility to work within the constraints of your own schedule. The Gaggle ReachOut team offers a 24x7 service that is used to support students in crisis situations. As an Independent Contractor, you would be supporting Gaggle's work in making a positive impact on the lives of K-12 students.
Requirements:
  • Crisis Help Line experience and certification preferred
  • Background in crisis management/de-escalation, mental health and/or social services
  • Counseling or coaching experience
  • Excel at empathetic listening, building strong rapport through text-based chat, and providing compassionate support during someone's mental, emotional, or relational challenges.
  • Experience using various computer and web-based applications in a professional environment
  • Ability to exhibit tolerance of and respect for others' opinions
  • Adaptability to change
  • Ability to work independently; experience working as an Independent Contractor preferred
  • Access to high-speed internet (satellite is not acceptable)
  • Access to a computer, Chromebook, or laptop (tablets/phones are not acceptable)
  • Experience with Slack or other business-based chat applications is a plus
  • Must be comfortable in an ambiguous start-up environment, as process improvements continue to be implemented
  • Strong technology skills
  • Be flexible to sign up for shifts to cover the crisis line 24/7. We will work with you on your availability to support kids in need. Multiple shifts and options are available.

Additional Considerations:
  • The non-renewing, Independent Contractor assignment is not guaranteed for any length of time, workloads and hours will vary
  • Gaggle is in the process of partnering with school districts for this service, as a result, we will need flexibility from anyone accepting this contract with both start date and scheduling.
  • Contracts can be terminated at any time
  • There is potential for contract renewal depending on workflow and personal ability to fulfill responsibilities outlined above
  • Because Gaggle strives to enter into contract agreements with Independent Contractors who contribute to Gaggle's mission of student safety, criminal background checks are required for all prospective Independent Contractors - this screening includes, but is not limited to, both a National Criminal and National Sex Offender Registry check
  • 100% remote work
