About the Company

In 2025, through the addition of several new business lines, Sentact expanded to form a truly unique company with the goal of strategically addressing a critical need for healthcare organizations - specifically, offering an integrated suite of solutions to encompass patient safety, quality, experience, and regulatory readiness. From credentialing to peer review, to comprehensive rounding for safety and experience, to clinical analytics, incident reporting and a market-leading patient safety organization, Sentact's solutions address the pressing operational and regulatory challenges facing healthcare leaders today. And our story is still being written - with the help of our customers. We will continue to evolve as we listen and respond to the needs of our customers, empowering them to reimagine the path to exceptional care.

The Role

We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer to operate at a principal level of scope and impact on the core systems behind our healthcare SaaS platform.

This role focuses on designing and evolving backend services and data infrastructure that process sensitive healthcare data at scale. You will work on foundational systems - not isolated features and contribute to long-term architectural decisions that shape how the platform grows, performs, and remains reliable over time.

The work involves cloud-native, data-intensive services in regulated environments. You'll regularly navigate tradeoffs across performance, reliability, security, and compliance, and you'll be trusted to make sound technical decisions in the face of ambiguity.

The Work

  • Work closely with other engineers, as well as product owners and designers, to deliver new features and resolve bugs
  • Write readable, maintainable code that is built to scale and accounts for errors and edge cases
  • Design and evolve backend services that support critical healthcare workflows
  • Model complex relational data and guide schema evolution as use cases expand
  • Build secure, reliable integrations with EHRs and third-party healthcare systems
  • Develop standards-based APIs and services (REST, FHIR, HL7)
  • Influence architectural direction related to scalability, reliability, and data integrity
  • Partner closely with product, data, and security teams to solve real operational problems
  • Improve system observability, failure handling, and operational resilience

This role prioritizes building systems that remain correct, understandable, and dependable over time, not just shipping features quickly.

What We Look For

We're looking for engineers who think in systems and consequences.

  • Experience designing and evolving production systems that other teams depend on
  • Strong instincts around architectural tradeoffs and long-term maintainability
  • Comfort owning systems that run in production and matter to real users
  • A proactive approach to identifying risk, ambiguity, and hidden failure modes
  • A desire to raise the technical bar through design, mentorship, and example

You don't need to have all the answers, but you should be comfortable being responsible for finding them.

Required Experience

  • 7+ years of professional software development experience
  • Meaningful experience owning and operating production systems
  • Strong background building data-driven applications
  • Significant production experience with one or more of the following: React, PHP/Zend, Ruby/Rails
  • Strong SQL skills with MySQL and PostgreSQL
  • Experience building secure systems with appropriate access controls and encryption
  • Ability to independently design, build, and deploy backend services

Experience That's Helpful (But Not Required)

  • Healthcare data standards such as FHIR or HL7
  • EHR or healthcare API integrations
  • AWS and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible)
  • Experience working in HIPAA or HITRUST regulated environments
  • Security-conscious engineering experience

Why This Role Matters

The systems you work on will influence how healthcare organizations identify risk, improve clinical processes, and protect patients. This is work where correctness matters, shortcuts show up later, and thoughtful engineering has real downstream impact.

We're looking for engineers who want their work to matter beyond a release cycle - and who care about building systems that healthcare organizations can trust.

Why Join Sentact

  • Work on systems that directly support patient safety and care quality
  • Meaningful technical scope with influence over platform direction
  • Collaborative, lowego engineering culture
  • Flexible hybrid work environment
  • Problems that reward depth, judgment, and long-term thinking
