Job description

Title: Sales Engineer

Location: Remote – United States

Type: Full-Time

Compensation: $90,000 - $130,000

Position Overview

Our client is a growing software organization focused on delivering technology solutions that help customers improve operational efficiency, compliance, and data management. Their platform enables organizations to collect, manage, integrate, and report critical business information through a centralized system.

We are seeking a Sales Engineer who combines strong technical expertise with excellent customer-facing skills to support the pre-sales process. This role will serve as the technical bridge between prospective customers and internal teams by understanding business needs, designing solution approaches, delivering tailored demonstrations, and helping define implementation requirements.

The ideal candidate is comfortable translating complex technical concepts into business value, managing technical discovery conversations, and ensuring solutions are accurately scoped and positioned throughout the sales cycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Sales teams to develop technical strategies for qualified opportunities by understanding customer objectives, workflows, systems, data requirements, integrations, and potential technical challenges.
  • Conduct technical discovery sessions to gather requirements and identify solution considerations, risks, and dependencies.
  • Design and deliver customized software demonstrations that align with customer goals, workflows, and use cases for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Adapt demo environments, configurations, workflows, and supporting materials to demonstrate relevant business outcomes rather than relying on standard presentations.
  • Translate customer requirements into detailed solution documentation, including assumptions, scope considerations, dependencies, implementation needs, level-of-effort estimates, and pricing inputs.
  • Evaluate solution options and clearly communicate product capabilities, limitations, configuration requirements, and potential risks.
  • Maintain ownership of demo environment readiness, accuracy, reliability, configurations, workflows, and supporting datasets.
  • Create and maintain reusable demonstration scenarios, technical materials, documentation, and pre-sales resources to improve efficiency and consistency.
  • Coordinate technical preparation for demonstrations, including testing functionality, validating configurations, and resolving technical issues before customer presentations.
  • Develop clear requirements, priorities, and acceptance criteria for technical enhancements or demo-related work completed by internal development resources.
  • Partner with Product, Implementation, Development, Support, and Sales teams to address technical questions, incorporate customer feedback, and support successful transitions after sale.
  • Assist with solution design discussions by providing technical insight into integrations, data structures, migrations, and implementation considerations.
  • Maintain knowledge of product capabilities, industry trends, competitive solutions, and customer use cases relevant to the organization’s market.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in technical pre-sales, solutions engineering, software implementation, technical consulting, or a related customer-facing technology role.
  • Experience supporting SaaS or software-based solutions preferred.
  • Strong understanding of software configuration, relational databases, SQL, APIs, integrations, file-based data exchanges, and cloud-based applications.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts and business value to a wide range of audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple opportunities, priorities, demonstrations, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented approach with strong documentation, follow-through, and process management skills.
  • Associate degree, bachelor’s degree, technical certification, or equivalent professional experience in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience writing SQL queries and working with relational database environments.
  • Experience supporting customers in regulated industries, government organizations, infrastructure, or compliance-focused environments.
  • Background managing software demo environments, testing environments, reusable configurations, or sample data sets.
  • Experience defining requirements for integrations, APIs, data migrations, or complex software implementations.
  • Basic understanding of HTML and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with operational technology platforms, reporting systems, enterprise applications, or industry-specific software solutions.
  • Experience using CRM and project/work management platforms such as Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho CRM, or similar tools.
  • Experience collaborating with distributed or offshore development teams.
  • Ability to travel occasionally and adjust schedules to support customer meetings, demonstrations, or business needs.
