Work EnvironmentOffice, client sites, remote setupField, control rooms, remote troubleshooting
Industry UsageManufacturing, process control, automation firmsIndustrial facilities, manufacturing plants
Job FocusWriting and testing PLC code remotelyMaintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing automation systems remotely

Remote Plc Programming primarily involves developing and testing PLC code from a remote location, focusing on programming tasks. In contrast, Remote Automation Technicians handle troubleshooting and maintaining automation systems remotely, often involving on-site visits or remote diagnostics. Both roles require technical certifications and are common in manufacturing and industrial sectors, but their core responsibilities differ in scope and focus.

What are some common challenges faced by remote PLC programmers and how can they be addressed?

Remote PLC programmers often encounter challenges such as limited access to onsite hardware, communication barriers with onsite teams, and troubleshooting issues without physical presence. To address these, it's important to use remote desktop tools, maintain clear and frequent communication with local technicians, and document all programming changes meticulously. Additionally, fostering strong collaboration with cross-functional teams can help ensure smooth project execution and rapid problem resolution.

What Are Remote PLC Programming Jobs?

PLC stands for programmable logic controller and is a specialized computer system that controls aspects of industrial manufacturing operations, such as automated processes. As a remote PLC programmer, you work from home to write code and create software for these purposes, as well as provide technical support for customers and companies that use this software. In addition to your programming responsibilities, you work on existing PLC systems to create more efficient processes and troubleshoot when the system has an issue. Other duties include documenting your work and training other employees on how to use the software in a manufacturing environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote PLC Programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote PLC Programmer, you need a solid background in electrical engineering or automation, strong PLC programming skills, and experience with control systems. Familiarity with PLC platforms like Siemens, Allen-Bradley, and associated SCADA or HMI software, along with relevant certifications, is typically required. Excellent problem-solving, independent work ethic, and effective remote communication are key soft skills that help manage projects and collaborate with teams from a distance. These skills ensure reliable automation solutions, minimize downtime, and support seamless integration in industrial environments.

What is remote PLC programming?

Remote PLC programming involves configuring, updating, and troubleshooting programmable logic controllers (PLCs) from a distance using network connections. This allows engineers and technicians to access industrial automation systems without being physically present on-site. Remote PLC programming increases efficiency, reduces travel time, and can help quickly resolve issues in manufacturing and industrial environments. It typically requires secure remote access tools and a strong understanding of both PLC hardware and software.

How to make $1000 a week remote?

Remote PLC programming jobs typically pay between $20 and $50 per hour, so earning $1000 weekly requires working approximately 20 to 50 hours. Developing strong skills in ladder logic, PLC software, and obtaining relevant certifications can increase earning potential, and freelancing or consulting can also help reach higher income levels.

Behind our customers - amazing companies that help feed the world, provide life-saving medicine on a global scale, and focus on clean water and green mobility - our people are energized problem solvers that take pride in how the work we do changes the world for the better.
We welcome all makers, forward thinkers, and problem solvers who are looking for a place to do their best work. And if that's you we would love to have you join us!
Job Description
Emulate3D digital twin software empowers people to better envision, test, and create automation systems. As a Digital Twin Technical Consultant, you will solve real-world engineering challenges using Emulate3D and related digital engineering tools. This is a mostly customer-facing sales role with a goal of driving adoption and revenue, both from software and services sales. As part of Rockwell Automation's broader Secure Digital Operations sales team, you will help accelerate the success of digital transformation initiatives.
We are looking for a well-rounded engineer who has a depth of experience in industrial simulation, controls engineering, robotics, and digital design tools. Your primary responsibility is to provide technical consultation to clients: transforming ambiguous solution objectives (the "what") to specific design architectures, proofs of concept, and functional prototypes (the "how"). You will be a guiding figure for clients with your subject matter expertise, continuing to assist them as their adoption scales with value-added success. This may include mentorship, training, and small project delivery as availability permits. While your focus will be Emulate3D software, you should also be comfortable working with connected software tools for robot programming, PLC programming, and mechanical/electrical CAD.
This is a fully remote role requiring the Digital Twin Technical Consultant to reside and work in the United States. You'll join a dynamic, collaborative, and efficient global team that is passionate about digital engineering. As part of Rockwell Automation, we serve clients worldwide across diverse industries and cultures.
Your Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support during strategic pre-sales engagements, including demos and proof-of-concept modeling.
  • Be an expert in digital engineering, representing Emulate3D in customer engagements and internal strategy discussions.
  • Lead and contribute to client meetings, pre-sales workshops, and industry events. Manage virtual versus in-person participation as needed.
  • Deliver consulting microservices to global clients using Emulate3D and related digital engineering tools, including: project delivery, personalized training services, and custom Emulate3D catalog development.
  • Communicate with the product team to influence roadmap decisions through customer feedback and technical insights.
  • Create technical documentation, including modeling standards, reference architectures, and best practices.
  • Support integrations with complementary tools such as robot programming environments, PLC software, and CAD platforms.

The Essentials - You Will Have:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Relevant Field.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

The Preferred - You Might Also Have:
  • Typically requires 5 or more years of related experience.
  • Solid experience using Emulate3D or related digital twin / digital engineering tools, especially in the context of emulation, controls testing, and virtual commissioning.
  • Solid experience with Rockwell Automation products, especially Studio 5000 Logix Designer, ControlLogix, CompactLogix, and FactoryTalk Logix Echo. Understanding of how a PLC functions, including interpreting and writing PLC logic.
  • Basic experience with robot simulation software, including one/more of: FANUC ROBOGUIDE, ABB RobotStudio, Yaskawa Motosim, or Siemens Technomatix Process Simulate. Understanding concepts related to robot programming.
  • Basic experience with mechanical CAD software, including one/more of: SOLIDWORKS, AutoDesk Inventor, and PTC Creo. Understanding 3D CAD concepts such as joints, assemblies, distinction between parametric geometry and mesh-based representations.
  • Basic experience or familiarity with electrical CAD software, such as EPLAN. Ability to interpret electrical/networking schematics into electrical model.
  • Basic experience with scripting and programming, especially in object-oriented languages such as C#. Can create lightweight scripts for task automation or customization activities.

What We Offer:
  • Health Insurance including Medical, Dental and Vision
  • 401k
  • Paid Time off
