Pay Rate $70-$80 per hour Length 3-6 Months Location Remote, MN Overview We're seeking a highly skilled Backend AI / Document Processing Engineer to help build and scale a document intelligence pipeline that transforms complex benefits content into AI-ready data. This role will initially focus on document ingestion and processing before expanding to core AI capability development and workflow automation. You'll work in a fast-paced, R&D-style environment with high autonomy, direct collaboration, and rapid iteration cycles.

Core Mission Build the document intelligence pipeline for AI-ready content. Transition to developing AI-driven workflows and enhancing core intelligent automation capabilities. Responsibilities Weeks 1–9 Focus: Automate document ingestion from multiple formats (PDF, DOCX, HTML).

Develop intelligent chunking strategies for different document types. Implement quality scoring and validation pipelines. Enable cross-document reference mapping.

Weeks 10–12 Focus: Build intent classification for action detection. Develop workflow orchestration frameworks and integrate with task/reminder services. Create and maintain an action capability registry.

Required Qualifications Python / FastAPI development — building high-performance async services. Document processing — OCR, PDF extraction, table parsing, and document structure understanding. Vector databases — experience with pgvector or similar (e.g., Pinecone, Weaviate).

LLM integration — LangChain, prompt engineering, and RAG pipelines. Data pipeline architecture — queue systems, batch processing, and quality validation. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Unstructured.io or similar document processing frameworks.

Knowledge of insurance/benefits document formats (SPDs, SBCs). Workflow orchestration tools (Temporal, Airflow). HIPAA/compliance experience.
